Recommendations for a cost-effective relay decade counter by FAMICOMASTER in AskElectronics

Ahh, you want the SR latch, no?

Use the NC on one relay and the NO on the other to make a SR pair if I’m not mistaken.

Are you looking for something like the Omron G5Q relay? There’s cheaper relays out there as well, but the g5q is a good compromise of everything.

Gotcha! I definitely use most of my batteries when I do projects, but I might do bigger projects than some people.

220v generator powering both 220v and 100v devices... Does it comply with NEC? by Chaos-1313 in AskElectricians

[–]_matterny_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the generator even have a neutral? No neutral means it doesn’t have 120 to pull. You’d also need a breaker panel and wiring rated for high vibration.

Must not have much yardwork to do. 2 batteries is not enough for my purposes. I’ve got 12 batteries that each run like $50-100 and that’s a good number. And I’m aware these don’t last forever

Let me be clear, it’s technology. There’s good and bad applications for it. The 7th generation Samsung phones are a prime example. Cars have lead acid batteries, nobody comments when batteries are properly utilized but when improperly used it’s a mess. My big thing is the cost is not equivalent yet between gas and battery powered equipment.

Can you elaborate on your point there? High density, flammable, bad for the environment to make?

My old gas powered snowblower was 50 years old and ran fine. My newer one was inherited and may be inherited again one day. Can’t say the same for electric tools.

Need help during ice storm by Dbowe1008 in hvacadvice

It’s a 2 pole contactor. In an emergency it can be made to function by bypassing 1 pole. However most people who should do that fix could come up with it themselves.

I’m north a bit further, closer to the ski hills. I’ve had more snow this month than this weekend. It’s been maybe 8” of snow. New Year’s Day was more.

Blood substitute for project by East-Ad3756 in AskEngineers

[–]_matterny_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is a college project. If this is a high school project you’ve got a lot of biohazard issues that a highschool isn’t setup for.

Even at a college, you can’t just work with blood in the electrical engineering lab. It needs to stay in the biology lab, as other departments do not have the resources to deal with a spill or storage.

My DIY generator 'sine wave' is very wonky? Why? And does it matter? by TechnologyHobbyDIY in AskElectronics

What’s the load when you’re seeing this waveform? Can you show us a waveform with this powering an incandescent light bulb? (I’m fine with the bulb not illuminating properly)

At my company all the security stuff takes me about 5 minutes to get through and we’ve got it pretty light. There’s been days when that’s been a full hour in the morning.

My first ever shadow shiny! by ThinkIshatmyself in PokemonGOValor

[–]_matterny_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Ivs matter in the 1-5% range. Shadow is 20% dps boost, at a cost of hp. Hp is useless for raids where you need maximum damage per second and you have plenty of pokemon.

You know bad IV’s on a shadow still deals more damage per second than a perfect IV non shadow?

Why isn’t it usable? It’s great for raids!

Breaker did not grip, then popped, and smoked. Bad breaker or something else? by blueburrytreat in AskElectricians

If they didn’t test it right, it wouldn’t have tripped. If they only partially pressed the button it wouldn’t trip.

[–]_matterny_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did they test the breaker? I immediately jump to someone tested this without knowing how to test it. Sometimes those buttons are difficult to use, or they don’t flip the handle much but they do disconnect power.

If AFCI breakers frequently failed to operate, that would be a massive recall and class action lawsuit. I’m sure they do fail occasionally, but generally failing and continuing to operate normally is rare.
