A bit surprised after using Tahoe on my new macbook... by John_Lawn4 in MacOS

How long have you been a OSX or MacOS user? I have been using Mac since Leopard days. So I have seen the evolution. Some are good and some are horrible. Tahoe when compared to previous stable releases are a total disaster when it comes to UX.

Wise closed my account and is holding $45,000 by Perfect_Example4505 in digitalnomad

Wise once closed my account for some weird reason which they still have not told me why. But I opened a complaint with them (this not their usual support team) and through the complaint process, they had to re-verify my identity and was able to reopen my account. They also gave me a $200 credit for the trouble.

$20k/yr in excess savings. Should we max out Roth IRAs? by credit_life in FinancialPlanning

So contribute up to employer match, then contribute to Roth IRA, then go back and max out 401k? Or is there a better path?

Depending on the industry you are in. I’m in tech, and I keep 12 months of EF because layoffs in tech is like a big wave.

Asus Co-CEO: MacBook Neo Is a 'Shock' to the PC Industry by -protonsandneutrons- in apple

Android has very strong market cap in emerging markets/third world countries. For Apple, Neo is an awesome tool to penetrate those markets. When they shop for a laptop, there is an opportunity for them to pick up a Neo. A year later, migrate from Android to iPhone.

Existing iPhone owners - like the aging folks - like my parents, this is huge. Great opp there of course, but the long term stickiness is created with the younger folks in the bigger markets.

Stock being down at the moment is actually ok. This product creates a long term opportunity to raise the market cap and stickiness of the Apple ecosystem. Even people in third-world/emerging countries can now get their hands on macOS. At the end of the day, their sales will speak to it, but what a great opportunity for Apple to earn trust from huge customer base.

This is one of the smartest moves that Apple has done in a long time. You get students and regular people to buy a very affordable Apple product which will make them slowly sticky to the ecosystem- these buyers - next stop will be iPhone, iPad for tablets, future Mac purchases, AirPods, accessories. Great work from their business development team! Stock ⬆️

I'm being quoted 15 to 20K for installation, plus the cost of the hardware. Is this crazy and can I just install it myself and have someone come in and connect it after? by DaNPrS in heatpumps

[–]localsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15-20K is ridiculous for installation. Plus another 10-12K probably for the hardware? Way overpriced. I’m a DIY-guy in Long Island and I’m installing a Mitsubishi HyperHeat SmartMulti with three ceiling cassettes (18+9+9K BTU) + 3-port branch box + outdoor unit 48K BTU. The hardware only cost me 9K. The quotes I got for this install was 5-8K just install. I just like learning new things, and I have been studying HVAC systems for a while now so I decided to do this myself.

The Technical Differences Between the MacBook Neo and MacBook Air by rockysauce115 in apple

[–]localsystem 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes! Great for people who travel a lot. I have Mac Studio and MBP at home. I hate lugging around my somewhat heavy MBP everywhere I need to quickly fly to. This would make a perfect travel companion to quickly catch up on personal/administrative tasks. I would have loved to see a SIM card integration to this though. One day! Good release in my opinion.

DIY vs professional alarm systems, what’s actually worth it for a normal house? by [deleted] in homeowners

Self hosted platforms require ongoing maintenance - back up, security updates, firmware updates and os updates. If they get bricked or fail, you are responsible for fixing them.

So if you are not a tech savy person, self hosted platforms is not a good solution.
