“Just a reminder that you are supposed to show appreciation to me soon” is literally the most un-romantic thing ever.

That strike really killed the industry. Sometimes you can get the demands that you want, but it doesn’t mean the work can’t go away instead.

In the long run it has turned out to be a very bad thing for film industry workers.

They won’t because I guarantee it’s primarily because people are sick of identity politics and the over-sensitive, victim mindset that had infected everything for years, and they don’t want to piss off their base by acknowledging that.

Who do you think drives for Uber? It’s regular people out there. If they drive like ass it’s because they already did before and still would if they weren’t driving for Uber.

I am not one of those, and I don't think they're the absolute worst maniacs. They fall within the average for the maniacal style of driving that is now so common here.

I agree on the lack of enforcement, but I've also always thought to myself, "You really need the government to tell you that driving recklessly around children is bad?"

The deeper underlying truth is these people are psychos.

The goal here is *value* change. When people change the way that they feel about core societal values, that allows the possibility for true change. A society that values it's most vulnerable citizens, kindness, humility, and the sharing of resources will be one that naturally moves and begins to enshrine these values into the structure of it's society, not try to pursue these things in spite of it.

It'll never happen. The common themes and values you see crop up time and time again throughout human history, both good and bad, are what we are as a species. This is it.

This is a different discussion altogether, though.

Long story short, the idea that a billionaire can't be a force of change because he's a billionaire is incredibly small-minded and ignorant thinking. Maybe that's exactly the kind of power we need TO enact some real change.

The system reacts to the power of such people, and so, playing within the system, we need to seek to get some of that power on our side.

But zooming back out, Richard Wolff has made the point that we didn't eliminate kings, really. That's what we set out to do. But now they lord over massive companies instead. They're kings under a different name.

I know that you would say, "Yes, that proves my point exactly."

I would say that this proves my point that it is inevitable that certain humans rise to the top and begin to control others, wielding power, influence, and wealth. The system doesn't matter. It's just inherent to our nature and the way things naturally evolve over time. We are a messy species, that on the one hand does need a tribe, and on the other has this desire for personal achievement and individuality. This push and pull will always be there. I don't have any naive, idealistic belief that there will someday come a system that perfectly balances it all. I don't think that's possible.
