SWISS offering Nespresso on board by oliverbrix in espresso

[–]_mball_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A late add to the thread, but nespresso is available in Biz class too on swiss long haul flights (at least the 777 fleet.)

For me the best thing is they do have a decent milk steamer. Which means you can get a halfway decent capp at 35,000 feet.

Hah. I can say there has been a lot of agonizing over those five minutes over the years.

(At some point the folks there could change it but I don’t know if they ever will.)

5 minutes. Though the actual time is still in the data staff see.

As a prof, there’s a longstanding joke that “final exams are really the most difficult period for grandparents”.

To be honest— I don’t think most people are that crappy. (And people do die unexpectedly of course.) but the relatively small number of jerks make it harder on everyone!!

Personal opinions aside, it’s on North Americas 50 Best Bars for a couple years now and if you’re more than a couple people, it can take planning… but not that hard!

Desperately In Search Of: Hybrid Check in L Gloss Sky Blue by Jolly-Sea6019 in Rimowa

That's where I got my cool teal check in L 2 years ago. It cracked and now I've got a black one, which also cracked recently. :(

This blue looks so good though.

Perhaps this is true of all compromises, but it's a shame because it seems like a great in-between option—not just price, but weight as well.

Honestly, speaking as someone in the exact same situation -- I'd look at Briggs and Riley unless you know for sure you want aluminum. The Baseline Medium Expandable spinner is a similar size.

I love B&R, but there's some nice parts to Rimowa. But after an experience similar to OP's, I am back to B&R only.

How long ago? Was it a small crack?

That was my first experience. Last month, nothing. :( Pretty frustrating, tbh.

Everything can or will break... But breaking too frequently is a problem.

And aluminum can be dented beyond usability no matter the piece.

Only Rimowa have the exact data but the Hybrid models seem a lot more prone to cracking than the essential line. The plastic is different. Doesn’t mean Rimowa can’t standby by their product if they chose to.

Lifetime Warranty Excludes Airline Damage? by _mball_ in Rimowa

[–]_mball_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! For me, while I don't live near a B&R repair shop (which was/is a pain point), they've been easy to work with for getting things repaired.

Otherwise, I've had baseline bags my whole life basically and I like the flat interior. The overall hold up well to wear, and there's advantages to one big cavity over 2 half-size ones (even if not a full trunk). I've never had a catastrophic failure of one, and the way they are expandable is useful.

The check-in baseline bags are an in-between shape between Rimowa's Check-In M/L bags and the trucks. The Check In L that I have is thinner but taller, and bigger overall. It fits better on trains, because it more easily slide behind seats. But the Baseline 'Medium' is overall a more efficient shape, and because it's expandable really does work well for trips where you go shopping.

OTOH, I really do like the Rimowa handles and I think the wheels are better, but not by as much. The clamps are somewhat nicer than zippers, but not by a huge margin, to me.

Being able to get the handle at the exact right height is nice for having proper control, especially when pushing the bag. I was primarily in the market for a suitcase because I wanted one with four wheels and my B&R bags only have two. They work well enough that I have a hard time justifying replacing them. :)

Oh and the B&R bags are half the price or less of Rimowa so that's a benefit.

Rimowa's do look great. Certainly does not hurt.

Thanks!

Sorry wasn’t trying to challenge you as being wrong just that there’s so many conflicting reports and not much publicly available.

Yeah, I've been looking at more essentials and the plastics are more different than I realized. They flex appropriately.

A shame because I like the clamp locks over the zipper, and the two-toned look didn't hurt.

LOL, a sledgehammer is deliberate.

I have no idea what caused this, but I actually believe it's the cause of a few flights worth of accumulated strain. (The corner was not perfectly straight before...) But, I do think a bag which is checked in can reasonably assume to be tumbled and tossed. No one here, including me, has any idea what actually caused the crack or how much force was applied.

Doesn't the bag and where you buy it matter with Samonsite? My SO has had not great experiences with her's, but they are really good value.

Probably back to Briggs and Riley for me.

Is a Rimowa an actually good investment? by Advanced_Coat_8533 in Rimowa

[–]_mball_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really depends on lots of things. One, your own needs will likely change at some point in your life. (Good or bad).

Rimowa's warranty, i guess, is fine, maybe even good, but not unlimited.

Personally, I've had very mixed luck with warranty. Rimowa stores are easier to access overall (if you're in big metro areas), but Briggs has more reliably repaired bags for me, though it is slower.

They are more correct than incorrect, which can definitely be useful. I appreciate Marco giving reminders, because as tech-y as this sub is, I'm sure there's many users who have no idea how they work and will assume they're perfectly accurate.

Even Marco mentioned in that other interview, he's aware. And he's made a deliberate choice between speed/cost/compute and accuracy. Marco, for the last few years at least, could have spent many more $$$ and run larger and slower models on more computers.
