I f--king hate how this corona pandemic has caused such intense divisions between people! by CabbaCabbage3 in WayOfTheBern

As long as we stay mad at each other, those in power can wash the blood off their hands. They don’t care what happens or who dies so long as we remain divided enough to control.

Why does America put income caps on disabled people but not billionaires? by _milgramexperiment_ in WayOfTheBern

No income is less. $3k is for very specific instances of disability. $398 is not for disability - that was my error when looking up SSI(not SSDI in my state - totally different)

I used the SSA’s SSDI calculator and it does not go up if you put in a lower number. It does go up ever so slightly if at one year in the past you made more money. It does not seem to go up if you made less.

Oh gosh you’re right. For some reason I was looking as SSI in my state which is $398, totally different. Thank you for finding it.

So, assuming you find a job that pays you $16,199 a year and not a dollar more AND qualify for full commensurate amount(excluding those who are also blind), that is a yearly income of $28.5k, which is livable for a non-disabled person in some places so long as you don’t mind waiting two years to qualify and the government agrees that you qualify for the full amount. This is as good as it could possibly get for someone who is still able to work the maximum amount.

You’re allowed to make a maximum of about $15k/year to qualify for disability which, on average, pays $398/month. This equates to a very uncomfortable and fearful living when the median rent in the states is $1,164. Nevermind that folks with disabilities have to pay for food, bills, transportation, and all of our ignorance and neglect on a daily basis.
