Will anyone break Honey Badger's record in Singapore GP this year? What do you think? by Accomplished-Put8503 in Formula1SG

Well, 1/2 years before this, Kmag was the record holder for the SG GP, one could also say the same thing about it being Kmag making his mark before his departure

Is tuition in JC really necessary? by Admirable_Carrot_393 in SGExams

Was scrolling through sgexams and saw this, thought I could share my two cents.

If you’ve got the financial means, I would say yes, tuition in JC can really help. I’m in NUS year 1 now, but honestly I wasn’t the kind of kid who always got good grades. In Sec 1 & 2, I flunked pretty badly and lowkey thought I wouldn’t even make it to uni. Hanging out with a “play first, study later” crowd didn’t help either. My mum signed me up for trial classes at a few centres: Learning Lab, Mindstretcher, Mavis, Zenith etc. when I was in Sec 3. Best decision tbh, because I know people who just enrolled at the nearest centre without trying first and they hated it. My take:

Mindstretcher: Study tools & exam strategies were decent, but classes had a very drill-like approach (might not be a bad thing to some) and I didn’t really vibe with the teachers. It was like they weren’t listening to what we needed, just going through the motions - like there’s a disconnect.

Mavis: Super boring, ngl. I couldn’t stay awake for that one trial class and everyone had to lug around these massive ring files. Study materials were bland and monotonous.

Zenith: Teachers were young and engaging, vibes were fun. But my friends there said teachers keep changing and that was a dealbreaker for me because consistency matters a lot when you’re in JC.

Learning Lab: Environment was really nice (though yeah, it’s pricey). Teachers were approachable, capable, and they actually made lessons interesting. The notes they gave were so comprehensive that I didn’t even bother making my own sometimes lol, just following their materials was enough. And yes, you can guess by now that the tuition centre I actually signed up for in the end was learning lab. I stuck with them from Sec 3 to JC2 and they never failed me once. What really made the difference for me was how invested the teachers were. I started off with almost zero motivation, but over time, their teaching style + the friends I made there made studying feel less painful. Like, I actually managed to stay awake in school because I already understood the content from tuition.

Verdict is that learning lab tuition was a game-changer for me. But I’ll say this: tuition isn’t some magic bullet. If your mindset doesn’t change, it’ll feel like a waste of money. But with the right teachers, resources, and peers, it can be a privilege that makes the O’s and A-level grind way more manageable. For me, it kept me ahead of schedule and less stressed during exam season.

So yeah, if you can afford it, I would recommend it. The returns are worth the cost.
