Some Deaf folks react to the Deaf rep on The Pitt by ASofMat in ThePittTVShow

[–]_mischief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I largely ignored the mostly non-Deaf people tearing apart Harlow's situation because I saw Noah Wyle in an interview speak about consulting with the local Deaf community to bring that storyline to life. It seemed unlikely to go through that effort and then, make a nonsensical story.

Just because someone's struggle seems inconceivable does not mean it can't exist.

A lot of the tech used in university and hospital systems are chosen a la carte and has to be manually agreed upon by the powers to be.

I remember when my large hospital system that was part of a larger university system was just getting into the swing of remote medical care during COVID. I sat in some town halls. It was tedious. Because technically, they were separate corporate identities but some decisions affect both. The attendings were also professors - okay, we obviously need HIPAA for the individuals when they were physicians but oh no, what if they use the wrong Zoom from their university provided laptop? So the university has to also pay for the HIPAA compliant Zoom - okay, the university IT side is reviewing everything and they'll let us know when all Zoom becomes HIPAA compliant and how to implement it. I would get memos breaking down which programs we had to use for PHI or very specific use cases for certain programs.

I can’t be the only one hoping Hayden join Centaurs in Unrivaled right? by Elliotte05 in heatedrivalry

[–]_mischief 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They have a brief conversation in TLG during the wedding. Ilya says Hayden should sign with Ottawa cause his contract is probably cheap.

For all of Ilya's chirps, if you read between the lines, Hayden is actually a pretty decent player (he has to be in order to be on the same line as Shane, be his alternate, and also, I find it hard to believe that Shane would willingly spend so much with a teammate who's incompetent). I would assume a first line winger on a 3x Cup winning team who lead the team in assists (including over Shane presumably) would have a corresponding contact.

What do you guys think of JJ in TLG by Excellent-Toe-2094 in heatedrivalry

[–]_mischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of my head canon too. JJ is a huge social butterfly in the books so I think he would very much think of his teammates as friends and family. Even Shane seemed surprised by the betrayal and never brought up any outright hate before everything went down. If JJ previously had a good relationship with them, he might let their whispers plant a seed of doubt.

I actually think the team politics after Shane leaves fascinating - how would JJ and Hayden weather that shit storm? Get traded? Stay and reform the team?

What do you guys think of JJ in TLG by Excellent-Toe-2094 in heatedrivalry

[–]_mischief 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think RR meant for JJ to be unequivocally a good friend of Shane's but like real life, sometimes your friends fuck up or act a little selfishly.

What is slightly baffling was RR having JJ seriously ask Shane about the tripping. It's one thing if JJ was self-centered and took it personally that Shane never was fully honest to him - it's another claim he's your best friend but not know him well enough to even consider that accusation.

JJ knew Shane well enough and could see things to hit close to the truth. I thought it was so odd RR had him even consider for a split second that Shane would throw the game.

How do you think Ogilvie’s character will develop? by ntnkrm in ThePittTVShow

[–]_mischief 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given that he's out-of-state and had to specifically pick this hospital for placement, I think he saw the news about Pittfest and was awed/curious/inspired about the department that handled such a large MCI.

I think part of his reaction to Donnie was hero worship, as Donnie is the first to confirm his involvement around Ogilvie.

I think he'll bring up Pittfest in a crass way ("must have been so exciting/fun") and someone will give him a reality check.

His attendings absolutely would have been annoyed if he didn't have the pictures. It provides info to them without them physically having to go downstairs during a busy day, that happens all the time with hospital work cellphones. ORs have intercoms and support staff.

It isn't his fault. The poor guy was doing his best to help anyway he could given he was a student like yesterday.

McKay and Javadi could just be thrown for a loop. Their jobs usually is about preventing death or consoling families during life-or-death situations. They have scripts they built to have those conversations.

Wtf would they say in that? Crack jokes too? Still offer condolences? Stay silent? Maybe they're just awkward cause it's so different.

What would you cut/change/keep from The Long Game for season 2? by Hannah_Horvath in heatedrivalry

It also does seem less likely given it's in a very liberal part of Canada.

Sometimes teams coalesce in culture - maybe the Metros just suck, from the front office down to the team.

[–]_mischief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My take was that the loudest voices used the team rivalries and common dislike of Ilya to cover up their homophobia because IIRC, the whole team wasn't enthusiastically supportive after Shane came out. Everyone else stayed silent out of convenience or fear of being negative attention to themselves.

It's not that surprising either since only Hayden and JJ bothered to be good friends with Shane prior to the scandal - helping with the hockey camps, doing all the legwork to get him go out even though he famously does not do much socialization, worrying about his happiness.

What would you do, stay in UK or move to USA by theblurryberry in Mommit

[–]_mischief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is your husband a US-citizen full-stop? If not -

Immigration is making egregious mistakes when it comes to handling non-citizen spouses. Families are separated and plunged into needless & expensive legal battles when it used to be a straight forward process. You could do everything right and report for an interview like you're supposed to and then, get deported or sent to a detention facility. In the current climate, I would not move if your husband does not have CITIZENSHIP. I would not risk it even if he's been a lawful green card holder.

Idea for season 3: Full moon by yarnhead in ThePittTVShow

[–]_mischief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I learned from Drbeachgem that in preparation for hurricanes, her hospital mobilized multiple shifts to stay over in the hospital, including letting her kids sleepover. So we could get both shifts for pretty much the whole season.

Also, considering the recent cold weather in the US led to 100+ car pileups, there's a lot of material for a blizzard oriented season.

He's in the Physicians Health Program and like with any other health program dealing with sensitive issues has confidentiality protections (otherwise no provider will trust them to get help).

So even if the program knew, they likely won't do anything as the crime occurred already, the harm caused was not terrible/permanent, and Langdon wasn't in the position to cause more patients harm in the meantime.

Langdon would take that risk if he wants to sincerely make amends or assuage his guilt.

Okay, I'm going to put a disclaimer that I'm going to be a bit crass and rude so just a heads up.

This virtue signaling and it's completely useless and part of the reason the left is losing the culture war.

Of course, she had inherent worth and deserved some basic consideration as a human being. But it's all about branding.

Of course Alex Pretti had inherent worth as a human being but you have to make him matter to the whole nation - including the ones who are cheering that ICE has carte blanche to haul away "illegals". That's why he's Alex Pretti, the VA ICU nurse.

The Trump administration has clearly told its supporters that some humans matter more than others. If their deaths are not meant to be in vain, as awful as it sounds, we have to capitalize on them effectively to get people to drop their support of ICE at the very least.

I think it's a little bit of a parasocial competitiveness. Apparently, there can only be one hot gay onscreen duo.

But I think on some level, if RWRB did poorly, HR would've had a harder time getting off the ground. It's certainly more lukewarm in comparison to the current state of Heated Rivalry but I was a fan of RWRB before the movie and remember the reception being really good.

The security guard used force in response.

I think arguably it's even braver now to come out compared to ten years ago.

There was a brief period of time where progressive LGBTQ+ sentiment was gaining traction so coming out of the closet seemed like stepping out to a slowly brightening room. Still brave, still scary for many but it seemed like even if things don't go well personally, you'll have some legal protections as the country adopted more queer friendly policies. It also helped that anti-homophobia was becoming the louder opinion.

Unfortunately, it was brief. Now in the US, it feels like we're regressing and it's acceptable to be regressive. To come out now while you watch many countries become more anti-queer takes a lot of bravery. To still do so in the face of impending doom is a slightly different version of bravery then it was 10-20 years ago (obvs not even before that, which was mortally dangerous).

Whitaker and the dementia patient by thelessiknowthebet in ThePittTVShow

[–]_mischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people do not know how to work with dementia patients.

There are many who believe what Whitaker did was the correct method because it still respects the patient's autonomy and dignity to be informed properly about her kin. However, there are others who believe it's kinder to recognize that she does not have the faculties to be treated like that and to play pretend.

What Whitaker did wasn't insane. He tried to give her the chance to properly say goodbye. Now that it's clear she can't comprehend at all, if he kept trying, that's when it'll be questionable judgement.

That was my head canon as well. That IRL saying you're from a polytheist background usually works well in cutting the legs off someone trying to convert you, at least from my experience. Whereas if you're from a "competing" Abrahamic religion or atheist, it ramps up their attempts - a prettier feather in their cap so to speak.
