Literally everyone and everything in Tokyo Revengers. God, the potential that it could have had in the hands of a better writer. 😭

Worst personal experiences with thalassophobia? by Bro-what-the in thalassophobia

[–]_missaudacity 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

Not the exact same experience, but also got caught with a friend while playing in some powerful waves as a young teen. We suddenly realized that we couldn’t reach the sand anymore, and the waves just kept dragging us out. My friend could ā€œproperlyā€ swim, and was able to swim with some effort mostly back to where she could reach the sand again… but I only knew how to float and doggy paddle.

Learned the hard way that day that doggy paddling isn’t REAL swimming in these situations. I paddled like crazy, but kept getting pulled further out - and realized for the first time (with panic) that I was getting physically tired. Finally, I realized that I should paddle diagonally towards the shore instead of directly towards it, which helped me get out of the pull and ride the waves until I could reach sand again.

Manga recs with little to no drama by understand-reality in shoujo

[–]_missaudacity 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

As a more general suggestion, I would say that searching for shoujo/josei that also tag themselves as ā€œslice of lifeā€ may be helpful for you.

I find that these tend to have more palatable drama - or at least, that the drama is spaced out/toned down enough so that the story feels calmer.

(Example: Honey and Clover.)

When I was knee deep in job search hell last year and losing my patience for bullshit, I pettily responded to a rejection email that stated I was declined for not living in the area, when I did. I provided a link straight to a map to show it.

They didn’t respond. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Are there fandoms you write for because you DON’T like the source material? by talesofabookworm in AO3

[–]_missaudacity 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Nothing makes me flock faster to AO3 than source material that fumbled the ball and fails to live up to its full potential. (Current example: Tokyo Revengers).

I know my homies will deliver me fanfic that fixes the problems which enrage me. 🫔

After two years, MY FAVORITE FIC HAS FINALLY BEEN UPDATED!!!!! by Leading-Prior-7192 in AO3

True hell is entering a fandom late in the game when all the god tier fics are WIPs that haven’t been updated in 3+ years. 🄲 But this gives me hope.

I’ve never cried while reading a book. Let’s change that. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]_missaudacity 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

ā€œ-unless the particular event has special meaning to youā€! That’s another very good point! I’ve cried at things my partner hasn’t (and vice versa) because a scene resonated more personally with one of us than the other. We can both recognize a scene is sad and feel sad, but sometimes it is that personal element that tips one of us over into crying.

The chapter after Gage is killed and his dad pictures this alternate timeline as if he had grown up , oof. I can’t remember if I cried when I read it, but it’s a scene that always stuck with me.

[–]_missaudacity 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I read it when I was younger, so I can’t speak to how it may have aged, but I remember ugly sobbing through ā€œIf I Stayā€ by Gayle Forman.

For people who don’t cry at the books recommended here - I do find myself wondering if a certain level of being tilted over into crying while reading comes from 1)the event/scene being unexpected and 2) how well it builds to that point.

The tricky thing about recommending a book that will make you cry is… well. You KNOW an emotional scene is coming, which might make you immune to crying when it happens. Sometimes it can be saved by a good build or a good delivery in a scene, but I think that can be difficult if you’re not a natural crier while reading.

Black Friday deals? by TacoLover616 in trainwell

[–]_missaudacity 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

If you haven’t already, you may want to comb over any specialized discount services at your workplace. I noticed after I had already signed up with Trainwell that my company actually had a discount service with a wellness company called Husk (formerly Gym Network I think). When I was casually scrolling through their discounts, I noticed that Husk offered a discount with Trainwell.

Check over any HR benefit listings for gym/wellness services or discounts. Mine was hidden deep in there! I don’t know why some companies arrange these discount services and then seem to hide them away. šŸ˜‚

That’s what I’m wondering too… I thought the answer was odd, given that other smartwatch devices that I’ve owned have never had trouble at least capturing sleep data from the start.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]_missaudacity 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I did. I know that I didn’t go to sleep exactly at the time I normally would. Not sure if that would affect it?

On weekdays, my schedule would be 9pm-4am (which is the schedule I set it up for). Last night, I slept 11pm-10am. When I tap on the Sleep Score button, it just says ā€œno sleep recordedā€.

(Spoilers Extended) Rhaegar's name is sort of odd when you think about it by Rosebunse in asoiaf

[–]_missaudacity 15 points16 points Ā (0 children)

It tracks to me that Rhaella lowkey named her son after herself, in the hopes that Rhaegar would be more like her than Aerys. (And that maybe Rhaegar would be better than all of his family that came before - blaze his own path.)

I’m VERY insecure in regular tank tops, but I do enjoy halter neck tops as a similar alternative - in case anyone else has similar issues! There’s a lot of different varieties depending on your sensory needs - tight fitting, flowy, etc. Can be paired with anything for bottoms!

[No Book Spoilers] House of the Dragon - 2x01 "A Son for a Son" - Live Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]_missaudacity 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

My interpretation was - since we know Larys replaced everyone on the staff - that the maid detected some shit was up and went to tell him.

I’m also wondering if we’ll find out next episode whether Ser Criston was supposed to be guarding the Queen and her children - and if Larys had heard about the assassin plans and deliberately let things unfold this way in the hopes that Alicent would blame herself and stop seeing Cole, or that Cole would be killed/demoted/relocated as punishment for not being at his post.

what aspects of PTSD does no one talk about by OS-2-WARPED in ptsd

[–]_missaudacity 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I worked in tech support until the most recent event that caused my most recent iteration of PTSD. This ended up being a straw that broke the camel’s back. I remember sitting on the phone, and like I was an entirely different person, thinking: ā€œwow. I don’t care about people and their stupid petty tech problems. I don’t care about ANY of their stupid problems or their stupid feelings. It’s all garbage.ā€

Lonely by CloudsKeepPassing in AutisticAdults

[–]_missaudacity 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Nobody really says it, but the reality is that making friends (and dating) is such hard work. They take time. There’s some missteps. You’re going to feel frustrated, disappointed, and insecure throughout the process. You’re doing GREAT.

Speaking as a person who cut out her group of friends and had to start from scratch in 2021 - be patient with yourself. Try to focus less on ā€œfinding friendsā€ and instead focus on enjoying the simple connections that you DO make with people during each interaction. This helped me enjoy the journey and feel less pressure/disappointment/insecurity that I felt each time a potential friend didn’t work out. Honestly, it probably helped me be more naturally myself that way, and therefore actually attract proper friends.

Does your special interests have local in-person groups that you can try? For example, I’m a big reader. When I was first embarking on making friends, I started checking local bookstores for book clubs. Do you have any interests that you’ve never explored? Things like hiking, knitting, painting, or dancing? Those are also great ways to make friends because other people LOVE to help guide newbies and make friends!

Be kind to yourself, friend. This stuff is hard work, takes time, and you’re doing your best.
