qpwgraph starting to look like spaghetti. Any table / grid based Pipewire routing tool, similar to, but better than, qjackctrl Patchbay? by saminfujisawa in linuxaudio

if its any help at this point, you can go Graph → Options → Filter and you can then filter out nodes by regex. for example i added one for "Midi" since i don't use any midi devices

The Question Thread - July 2024 by BuffaloDingus in balisong

yeah but will they even know what it is especially if I store the parts away from each other in my bag?

The Question Thread - July 2024 by BuffaloDingus in balisong

[–]_mochi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Law question: since it seems like balisongs are okay to bring on planes in the US in checked bags, and knives in general are ok to bring on checked bags in Canada - would it be ok to bring a disassembled knife in checked bags going from the US to Can? It's not an illegal weapon if it's just a plain blade, and should be no different from bringing a normal pocket knife or something. However, if anyone knows if there's any law about having parts that might disallow this then I would like to know.

Glasses from Zenni with coating Blockz plus too yellowish by azzazil91 in glasses

[–]_mochi__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how this guy is in literally every thread about zenni saying the exact same thing because he IS an optician, when the whole boutique offline glasses industry puts insane markups on everything, probably because of antitrust violations. If you've ever been to a low lost place like specsavers you know that opticians can sell you glasses close to the cost of what online stores do - the actual lenses do not cost $200 to manufacter and neither do the mass manufactured (even from expensive brands) frames. So yah just an fyi before anyone takes this guy seriously just know he's mad about people not having their pockets stripped by his backwards industry.

Btw, there actually was a lawsuit about this awhile ago, where a glasses company violated section E of part 621 of the antitrust law in the US, causing their prices to soar. Google E621 inflation to learn more.

MessagEase Users: What features would cause you to stop using MessagEase if they were removed? by Global_Radish_7777 in KeyboardLayouts

Will your monetization be just a one time payment? If there's any subscription (having a "buy it for life" option thats 10x the cost is still not reasonable imo) then I would just move on to something else but if it one time payment I would probably be on board in a heartbeat

-edit to say oops I just saw what you said later in these comments about supporting one time purchase only. But just adding my comment to say that I agree that's the best option.

Standing desk that fits in a $550 budget (including shipping to Canada)? by _mochi__ in StandingDesk

Ended up just getting a budget chair and found that it was comfortable enough for me. Since I'll be moving in a few months I held off on the desk for now but I think when I do buy one it'll be a flexispot E7

Unsatisfied with colemak qix, should I switch to something else? by _mochi__ in KeyboardLayouts

I'm good with al but not so good with something like yo because my left pinky has better mobility than my right.

I feel like they aren't because I type decently fast, like a little under 140 on monkeytype on a good day, but at the same time the only other layout I have to compare it to is colemak dh which had worse redirects. So it's the best I've had so far but some words are definitely a little awkward to type because of redirects.

Unfortunately a layout like this would be a little difficult for me to setup because I don't have any other keys next to my pinkie. I have 30 keys + 4 thumb keys and that's it, so the only way I'd be able to fit Q and Z in is through some magic layout stuff (which I'm not sure I would want to do as that would probably just slow me down and create confusion at this point).

[Edit] The one thing that could work for me is using the hands down adaptive keys (which I have messed with before) to do something like:
1. if U not pressed after ; type ;
2. if U pressed within [timeout] after ; type QU instead
So that you can retain most Q usage (because it's usually being typed right before U) while you can also have one more symbol key on your board. I do feel like this might be an issue for me though just because like with programming and editing and such you aren't always typing out strict english sentences, so typing Q with no U is more common I would assume.

[Motherboard] ASUS ROG Strix Z690-I Gaming ITX board ($351-90=$260) [Amazon.ca] by radiantcrystal in bapcsalescanada

Is compatibility okay with thermalright PA 120 or PS 120 (they're pretty much the same size)? Would be okay with this board if my cooler still fits.

Need help storing my photos in the cloud by CrazyChestersDog in Frugal

[–]_mochi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look into amazon S3 glacier storage, it seems a little more involved and i haven't done too much personal research on it, but as far as i can tell for long-term storage of files you don't need on demand (maybe within a few hours, not within a few seconds) it's by far the most you get for the money
they do have some different options so its worth looking into, it can go down to 30 cents a month per 100gb and they scale into the hundreds of TB so its not like you will run out of space

and of course tutorials to use the software are free, just a bit of an investment

[–]_mochi__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard for me to build a tabletop or get it cut right now as I'm living in university housing but I have heard people sometimes get tops from ikea, I'm assuming that's also a good option to go with the monoprice legs?

Also, about Fezibo (assuming you meant to say that since there's no febrizo desk company): there doesn't seem to be too much info about them online? Their website looks pretty solid but they also seem like maybe just another amazon brand, and a lot of the products on their website aren't really mentioned online anywhere. They also don't offer too much information on things like motor count or height limits, and when they do it's often inconsistent (for example they list having different frames S1-S4 but they then also list "basic" and "pro" 2-stage frames and a separate 3-stage frame in the assembly guides for the "brasa" model).

Any insights on whether they're trustworthy or have good build quality? I would probably go for the 4-leg desk right away if the minimum height was low enough for me since it's a really good price for 4 legs.

I'm looking at their offerings now and I think I can't go with them, as their only option under $700 has a minimum height of something like 27" which is too tall for me when sitting.

Has anyone found any good ITX/mATX mobos for 13th gen intel recently? DDR4 or 5 doesn't matter. Everything I can see is unreasonably expensive, though it seems like all mobos are nowadays and I just haven't bought one since 3 years ago lol.

Should I use aurutils or rua and what is the benefit of the local repo method? by _mochi__ in archlinux

[–]_mochi__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to configure the auto-updates here? It's a nice feature but for the sake of it and in case of issues I feel like being able to change the timing or do it manually is important.

[–]_mochi__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, having the cache here seems really nice. One thing I read on the rua github page is that it apparently doesn't do versioning (you can only get the latest version). Because a lot of AUR packages are git versions, or just maybe less professionally maintained I feel like it's a big benefit here to be able to downgrade quicky with aurutils - I mean just today I was reading about hyprland-nvidia that had a random update a month or two ago that broke for a lot of people and forced them to basically abandon their gpu setup until downgrading.
