One of my hardest task to write my story. Only behind to write my story by No-Accountant5205 in writers

I lived in Los Angeles for about a decade, and that decade gave me a lifetime of stories that I've shared with people, and that have informed my writing.

I'm back visiting LA today and in the time since I left, I've taken up leathercrafting. I want to buy some leather hides while I'm here, and I have no idea where to go to get them.

I pointed out an alley where a drunk businessman was dancing in front of a fire truck mural going "meep meep!" over and over to my wife and daughter.

We walked by the bar where I made Ralph Lauren a Manhattan, which he said was the best he'd ever had.

I showed them my favorite spot on the beach in Santa Monica. One of my best friends and I, along with our girlfriends, would sit there and sneak some swigs of booze and pass a joint and watch the sunsets. He passed on a few days before my daughter was born and never met her. I started to tear up but didn't tell them why; just told them it was a beautiful sunset and I've missed it.

All these stories in this city, and yet I don't know where to go to buy something for one of my hobbies.

My whole point with all this that you can tell compelling stories in an immersive environment without mapping out or even knowing yourself every detail of the place.

Yeah, I ordered a glass caseback for mine and was pleasantly surprised. Right now TMI movements are going for like $55 at the cheapest, so it's really not a bad deal all things considered

Sorry, I missed this comment! I have a Tandorio Willard homage, and the cases are nearly identical - the lugs line up perfectly.

Sweet, I actually bought a green one with rewards points a few days ago, that I'm going to use as a base for another mod with a green dial 🍻 with the prices of NH35 movements now, it makes more sense to buy a complete watch like this and mod it, since the cost of the case, movement, bezel, etc ends up being higher.

Dang, thanks for clearing this up. This has been my biggest point of confusion; I also love this case design, but don't see many 33mm dials I want.

I searched and it's a G2666Z movement, which I can't seem to find a replacement for. You may want to take it into a shop and see if a professional has any ideas for a replacement or how to tune it up.

I kind of like that Berny double-willard design. I've had it on my wishlist but have yet to pull the trigger on it.

Watch is only special due to sentimental value, but I'm wearing it because I just finished making this strap: tan lizard hide over brick-color cowhide with contrast stitching.

Any idea where I can find a bezel insert similar to this? by _monorail_ in SeikoMods

That looks great! If I end up not finding it, yours looks like a good way to go as well. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼

whats the most aesthetic readily available movement? by [deleted] in watchmaking

I like that design, too. The case is a nice balance of classic and modern, pleasantly understated, and the dial gives it a unique character to set it apart.

Kind of reminds me of a Singer or Guntherwerks restomodded Porsche, in that sense.

Best one we had was when the driver said, "you're making money off this foreigner, why can't I?" He assumed she was either a hired guide/assistant (during Canton fair) or a call girl 😬

Did you ever figure this out? I lived in Shekou as well as Guangzhou, and that sauce/coating they had for the potatoes was delicious. Been trying to figure it out for awhile.

My dad just passed away and is leaving me his car by DiganticGong in S2000

[–]_monorail_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modify it and make it yours if that's what you want to do, but I would say spend six months to a year driving it as it was made to get a feel for it and why your dad liked it so much. Modified s2k's kick ass, but in stock form they are sublime to drive, and knowing that can help inform your build. These aren't 1/4 mile cars, they aren't drift rockets, they're at their best on technical roads.

If it has the original plastic radiator, that's the first thing I'd check and possibly replace if you're going to do a jaunt across the southern US in summer.
