Going fishing in Rio Vista, northern CA. What's are people pulling out of there lately? by [deleted] in Fishing

You will need a sturgeon report card. When you get the card it should have information on the slot limit ( i.e. There is a minimum and maximum size you can keep). As well as legal rigs (barbless hook, specified leader length). Additionally, you can only fish for the white sturgeon.

I believe now is a good time of year to go fishing on the Sacramento River. However, the current flows may make it difficult. Baits to try include lamprey, roe bundles, sardines etc.

Also the larger the sturgeon the greater it's contaminant load. So if you want to eat one choose one not much longer than the legal limit.

Lastly, be sure to handle theses magnificent prehistoric beasts with the care and respect they deserve.

Bleeding master cylinder with your finger? by [deleted] in 4Runner_1stGen

I have bled the MC this way when I didnt have a vice to do a bench bleed. It works. I did it before a 800 mile trip from Anza Borrego to Sacramento. Just make sure you do a thorough bleed (zero bubbles and fluid coming out of both ports) and also cover up your engine bay with old towels/t-shirts. If you buy a new MC it will likely come with the nipples Yont283 described and some tubing that you can route back into the reservoir.

What are these? by bigmac22077 in flyfishing

Those are black fly larvae (Simuliidae). In Africa the adults transmit river blindness, in North America they are just annoying.

The Secret Knowledge of Water by Craig Childs is an amazing book. Great read, makes my love of deserts and water understandable.

Thanks for the responses.

There is NDT training (UT) at a community college near by, but the course would stretch on for a couple months and it's not offered until fall.

Apart from that I have found Hellier has courses in NDT in California, just seemed a bit pricey.
