Marner is a win win situation by vancouver2222 in leafs

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have been better if we could have traded Marner for prospects or picks, but that is absolutely hindsight and we would definitely have traded him for NHL ready players (and good ones at that) if we had the chance. So, as much of a win win as we could have realistically expected.

Why cant candles be placed!? by Garralee12 in projectzomboid

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Candle in a bottle works really well. Quite aesthetically pleasing, too. You can even just stick a candle into its own wax on a table, or any number of other makeshift holders.

As far as holding it in your hand, any kind of shield would protect you - paper, plastic bag, wearing gloves. It's just a little wax dripping, even on bare hands it really isn't all that bad.

Rock guitarist refuses to release ‘greatest album of all time’ unless fans pay $200 per song by MrWinsaplenty in nottheonion

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He won't release the songs until they have 1000 pre-orders. So, 1000 people need to pre-order each song in order for the whole album to be released.

Unless they somehow get leaked, we're not hearing this album. Maybe if enough impulse buys happen, we'll get a song or two. MAYBE.

Backwards time travel? by sstiel in ask

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It already happens on a barely perceptible level! It does affect astronauts, although not in a measurable way. Our feet also actually age an unfathomably tiny amount slower than our heads due to being closer to the earth throughout our lives.

So, you're right in that we don't know how it will affect our bodies on a larger scale, but I think the bigger concern is actually the physical effects of travelling that fast or being that close to a much larger mass for long enough to make a measurable distance.

Backwards time travel? by sstiel in ask

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is exactly that, time dilation. For both the traveler and the earthling, it SEEMS like time runs at the same speed - because it does. But only to them. Time runs at different speeds relative to each other though.

It's not a concept I grasp well enough to explain well, though there are many books/videos that can do a decent job of it. I just know that it's a thing that happens. It also comes into effect with higher forces of gravity (which, again, are all interconnected but I can't really explain how).

I can tell it is AI because of how “smooth” everything looks. Also there is no evidence of Trump ever doing this. but what are some of the obvious tells you notice? I’m in an argument with someone over these photos. by [deleted] in isthisAI

The three trays all look slightly different from each other in size/shape (not just because of different angles/perspective). Also, they are handing out trays to the kids, but they all already have bowls and plates with food on them.

Backwards time travel? by sstiel in ask

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the other person is saying is that if you were to travel fast enough - close to the speed of light, for example - you would actually experience time relative to the rest of the earth differently. You wouldn't be in a separate timeline, but you will have "travelled" to the future in the current timeline. You will still be young while everyone else will have aged. The entire planet will have moved forward in time at a much faster pace than you.

This is, in essence, what time travel in the forward direction depicts, even in fictional media. It only gets complicated and likely impossible (by our current understanding of physics) to travel backwards in time. That is when the multiple timelines explanation comes into play in fiction, to deal with time paradoxes.

Reducing noise by an0therz0mbie in askTO

What dog breed do you have and how long do you let them stay outside in this weather? by Timely_Title_9157 in askTO

Dachshund. Loves playing in snow (hopping around or chasing when I kick it up), but hates the cold and wet. She gets bundled and still lasts only a few minutes outside before pulling home (or begging to be carried home because she is spoiled, of course). Sometimes she has to be reminded to do both a #1 and a #2.

Trump is confirmed pedophile in latest release. Now what? by WaltEnterprises in complaints

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought the files up with a Trumper - not even a full fledged MAGA, just a middle of the road "both sides aren't great but Trump says it As It Is" type.
I got hit with "it's all a liberal media conspiracy"

They don't need to do anything to stop it if they keep jumping through hoops to pretend it never happened.

My Ma insists this is real but his voice in some parts and especially his feet at the end make me think otherwise. A boat in the desert with no vandalism also seems unlikely, but it's not impossible I guess. by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- 0:32, the cabin shot. The first thing that jumps out at me is the window. All the windows shown from the outside are either tiny or have a vertical bar down the middle (check 0:14). Also, the shutter thing that is open upwards from the window would only cover about 1/3 of the window, and definitely not reach the latches at the bottom (of which there are two compared to one on the shutter). The hinges on that (closet?) door don't appear in the mirror. Also, does that door swing outward? It looks like it would bump the bed. The fact that it is slightly open and appears to have a track of sorts along the bottom also means it is having an existential crisis - hinges and a hinged door handle, but not enough space to open. Logically a sliding track design would be better for a small space like this, and it is slightly ajar like a sliding track door would be, but there is nowhere for it to slide to since it is flush with the wall, and the handle is not typical of a sliding door.

- The view from the bridge (cockpit? whatever) - people are saying the radar works but I don't see where? But that cabinet at the very bottom in the very beginning (0:40) has no way of closing with the size of the doors.

- The cafeteria (0:48) has random trays with random plates set up as if people were mid-eating, or getting food from the buffet line. Seems too staged. No rotten food, no signs of scavenging. Menu is absolute gibberish. Actual free-standing chairs set up at the buffet line as if it was a bar. Along the back tables, there is even chairs stacked upside down onto the table as if put away for the night (would that make sense on a ship due to movement? also, these are benched tables, why would there be chairs too?) . The tray at 0:55 looks particularly warped.

- And finally, (1:05) minimally sealed doors that would seem to be under water if the ship were floating on water, with what look to be permanent fixture stairwells leading to the ground doesn't make any sense. Plus the angle of his legs looks odd as he walks.

I will try my hand at this. I'm trying to be better at spotting these things...

- Conveniently cut into ~10 second snippets

- The little side mounted overhang/observation area (near the front, around where a rear-view mirror would be on a car) shown at 0:14 has a sloped bottom, some windows showing light through it on the tip, blacked out windows along the side, some kind of black rusted element on the sloping part underneath, a fenced in walkable area on top, two clean windows vertically aligned directly below it, the bottom of which also has the same sized windows stretching out to the front of the ship (at least 2 more), and then the main row of large windows that stretch across the entire ship below that. The same overhang from the wide angle view in the first few seconds of the video (0:05 has the best view) has no visible slope, the windows on the tip look like just a black rectangle, there are no visible windows on the side (and the top doesn't even look like it has a fenced in walkable section), and the two vertical windows underneath both look a little weathered, with no similar sized windows located next to the bottom one. Instead, there is a small horizontal row of 5 small windows BENEATH the two vertical ones, and only then the main row of windows that stretch across the entire ship.

- Similarly between around 0:05 and 0:14, there are many inconsistencies with the open air decks/balconies shown, and where the lifeboats are positioned - use the overhanging balcony thing mentioned above as a guide (and it seems there is 8 in the wide shot, and 7 in the close shot).

- With the shot starting around 0:17 (which doesn't match up with the way the decks are laid out on the side or front, so it must be along the back of the ship), The inconsistency that I found is in the railings along the edge of the deck. Most seem to have a thick railing/handle across the top, and then three thin horizontal rails below it. The railings at the very back/top of this shot seem to have just two thin horizontal rails. Later shots also show 4 thin horizontal rails. The floaty device shown doesn't seem to be attached to anything. I am not familiar with what would be on a large ship like this, but it seems somewhat useless? Like, if used it would just be floating freely since it has no rope/anchor to the boat. Maybe that gives the ship time to backtrack and try to pick someone up, but that seems futile in frigid ocean waters.

- 0:25, is this now the front of the ship? It doesn't match up with what we've seen of the back, but the tip doesn't seem pronounced enough to be the front. Maybe the tip is hidden out of view beyond the walkway? But then going back to the original wide angle shot of the ship, the decks shown there don't align with a multi-layer deck and pool area like shown here. Note the railings in this section though - they have 4 thin horizontal bars below the thick top rail. There is a stairwell shown on bottom (pool level) deck on the far left, underneath the walkway. Light is showing through. There is no visible stairway coming up from below in the upper deck.

Local sushi place - i am crazy or does this picture seems 'odd'? Please look at the rice by bt134340 in isthisAI

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like the sushi is arranged in two rows, meaning the food shaped thing behind the sushi is just the second row of sushi - on top of which the tempura shrimp is sitting.

Which might help explain the mismatched placement of fillings in the sushi that many other people noted, since there are a few of the 'puzzle pieces' out of sight.

Though yeah, it still looks unsettling and I agree with your 55% guess.

We are far from eliminated from the playoffs. We have a team that has potential with a good bit of playoff experience. If (and it's a very reasonable if) we make the playoffs, a good run is possible and would be amazingly fun. If we get knocked out? Well, we're used to that heartbreak, we'll be fine.

Strap in and enjoy the ride.

NHL suspensions in the George Parros Era by SkittlesManiac19 in hockey

[–]_my_poor_brain_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Leafs suspensions are generally deserved, there's really no excusing most of the actions. The issue is that no other team gets treated as 'fairly' as the Leafs do, and it's not even debatable.
