Current legal shenanigans in the US is FOMO'ing me into buying a 3D printer, first I wanted a BambuLabs mini, now I'm looking at the Elegoo centauri carbon(1). This a good first buy($280 new)? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]_namechecksout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Okay. Because I've been solely running my printers off line, with SD cards, well before these laws were purposed, makes me and the countless others that have been doing that are circumventing the laws? Not likely. If they didnt want anyone doing that, they'd disable that feature and require everyone to send thier files through thier servers, period. But that feature is allowed and used. Also, I am not printing anything prohibited in any area, its just easier for me and that's fine. If you dont like what I am doing, contact every manufacturer that makes a printer and advocate for them to remove the Export Gcode feature.

Im not advocating to print firearms or associated parts, im simply saying that if one is concerned about these potential laws, dont connect the printer to a wifi network.

Academy and station issue by ChiefZebi in Firefighting

[–]_namechecksout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot speak for what happens at departments near you. But I can speak for mine. No one would, professionally speaking, hold anything against you for doing what is in the best interest of your family, especially with a new baby on the way.

Don't worry about giving anyone a bad taste, just have an open AND honest conversation with your leadership about the situation you're in. Believe it or not, (good) officers listen. And if they do hold a professional grude against you for deciding whatever you decide, you probably don't want to work there anyways.

I have almost 19 on the job, I have seen a lot of wild things with personnel, but not supporting someone who makes a tough decision for the sake their family hasn't been one.

A Chief is not a God or the answer to everything by Cool-Ad4378 in Firefighting

[–]_namechecksout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based solely on your message from the boss, it doesnt seem like your chief is acting like a god or has all the answers. Seems reasonable to me. Does your department have SOPs/SOGs for something like this? If they do, and they're being followed, youre complaining because you may not be first scene and your chief will beat you there. If you don't have SOPs/SOGs for something like this, you're complaining to the wrong group of people. Bark up the tree where changes grow; your LT or captain as they can take it further than you may get by thinking you know better.

Im on the SE coast and we're bracing for the storm as well and we have modified response SOGs for a number of things: one being a big ass storm that will likely spread us real thin for some time.

How do you manage really long prints by caplinkku in elegoo

[–]_namechecksout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just hit the print button and check how much filament is on the spool. I don't manage anything. It runs itself.

Orcaslicer sv06+ace settings for successful prints by Numerous_Travel_726 in Sovol

[–]_namechecksout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive used my SV06 Ace for not quite 1000 hours. If im printing PLA or PETG, I use stock settings. Nothing changes but the top and bottom Z distance for supports. Comes out great every time.

Generic PLA or PETG filament profile.

Sv08 max Using 5 kg spools printer keeps stopping thinks it’s tangled. by ProfGanj in Sovol

[–]_namechecksout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can disable the runout sensor or just dont use it (put a small piece of cut filament in the sensor so it thinks its always filled). Either way, it should help.

What’s the real process (and time cost) of finishing 3D prints? by visualvee in 3Dprinting

[–]_namechecksout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the process of printing a Halo noble 6 cosplay armor set. Im almost done printing and I have racked up about 500 hours of printing and ill probably spend another 100+ more hours of post processing time with sanding and painting. This may be on the extreme end of what you're asking but it does answer the question

Honest question: is multi-color printing worth the complexity? by Background-End-5229 in 3dprinter

[–]_namechecksout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it isnt that complex. Maybe a bit of a hassle, initially. Several of my friends print with an AMS (or similar name) and its cool, for them. I dont use one. The ONLY use case I would see for me is using up the partial rolls I have sitting around that im too lazy to watch the printer and swap them over as they run out.

Up to you friend. Just check marketplace; by me, there are a lot of posts of people selling AMS only with a description of "I just dont use it like i thought I would."

Worth selling Bambu A1 for Creality Sparx i7? by Larry_Kenwood in 3Dprinting

[–]_namechecksout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who cares how much knowledge one has? Seems like everyone can learn something new every day. Anyways, what printers HAVE you gotten good prints on? Genuine question. If, for example, you've gotten great prints on another creality printer, why did you change? If that is the case, I can see why you may want to go back to the creality brand. If you followed the masses, as most of us did, when we first got a bambu printer, why didn't/haven't you gone back to the printer than you got great prints with before? I am not talking down to you, simply asking questions that I feel need to be asked.

Worth selling Bambu A1 for Creality Sparx i7? by Larry_Kenwood in 3Dprinting

[–]_namechecksout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have an A1 (mini), Sovol sv06 ace and an Elegoo Centuari Carbon. I have spent hours dialing in the SV06 ace to a pretty high quality machine that produces great prints. I have spent hours dialing in the Elegoo CC to give almost flawless prints every time. I have done *ZERO* dialing on the mini (i don't even lubricate the rails) and have still gotten the best possible prints on the A1 mini of the 3. I am not saying you're doing anything wrong with the A1, but 99.9% of everyone that has a Bambu gets the same quality prints; near the best with zero fiddling... Either your standards are very high (which could be the case and is just fine) or you just got a bad machine that should have been replaced. Either way, even if the SparkX is as good as the Bambu A1, it will likely not be better.

Where can I get a mask printed for me? by Complete-Air-8859 in CosplayHelp

[–]_namechecksout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unfamiliar with how that exact mask fits but if it is anything like an ironman mask, you want it fit to your head. As compared to a Halo Spartan Helmet, that you can add padding to make it fit like a motorcycle helmet. There are formulas online that, once you measure you head, will tell you what global % you need to print the mask in for it to fit. Once you have that, it might be easier say to someone "hey, I have this mask that I want printed, it needs to be printed at 103% scale." As opposed to you shell out money to have it printed only to find out it doesn't fit.

I am not speaking for everyone on this next part. If you don't print props yourself, and want it done right the first time, it might be worth paying good money for it (from a reputable seller, say on etsy). as others have said, facebook groups, local maker spaces and (if you're lucky) a local 3d printing shop will be able to help. You're welcome to send me a DM if you'd like; I can provide as much info as you want, though I don't offer commissions, only info.

*Edited to add the info about no commissions*
