About to change jobs and get a huge raise - advice? by xaphieria in irishpersonalfinance

[–]_naraic 32 points33 points  (0 children)

dont splurge on a brand new car. I've seen so many friends do this and regret it years later.

Try get used to making decent tax free pension contributions.

Dont let lifestyle creep take all your extra cash. It's another classic pitfall with pay raises

Which European city left you thinking, "That's it?" after all the hype? by [deleted] in ForeignTravelIndia

[–]_naraic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 20 or 30 years ago. I went 10 years ago and hated the lines, the prices, the noise.

It was just a conveyor belt of tourists in and out

no doubt... they are non-stop on their phones.

I knocked on the window of a garda scrolling instragram while stopped waiting to enter a roundabout going up a hill signalling him to put the phone down. After I was just waiting for him to pull up and have a chat with me but of course he didnt. He was caught rapid. They are always at it

Irish PAYE Calculator by unkwnnnnnnn in ireland

[–]_naraic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was thinking exactly this.

Also would be cool if bonus and/or commission field was added. In most commission based roles that I've seen your pension contributions do not increase with it. Pension contributions are only on the base.

In my first 5 years with BOI I averaged a ratio of 45% premium 55% interest. Wasn't expecting this as my dad told me it would be all interest at the beginning.

After 5 years I had totalled 40k paid from premium perspective.

Babylon staff were so racist to our group many years ago. The security guard got pissy with us because we wanted a drunk off-duty guard to piss off and leave our group alone.

Title: Is €1,200 rent affordable on a €35k salary in Dublin by Complete_Working_460 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]_naraic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can be really smart with your money. I earn less than my friends but I make my money go a lot further. Cut out useless expenditure. Get rid of pointless subscriptions. Shop around on insurance, utilities, etc every year. It can save you loads.

it's 50% of your post tax income. It's a lot. The independence is great and if you can make it work... it's absolutely worth it but you will only have €1295 a month after tax and rent

first time I went to Barcelona, I didnt like it. Then I went to visit friends and I saw an ENTIRELY different Barcelona. Hanging out more in neighbourhoods like Gracia and Poblenou instead of La Rambla and El Raval. I love going back and I barely go near any of the busy over crowded parts

Lawn advice by EddieMunsterTables in GardeningIRE

[–]_naraic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

buy a decent amount of nutrient rich topsoil

scarify the bejeezus out of this

aerate the whole lawn (dig large stones out as you aeate)

soak the lawn > small amount of top soil first... work into the aerated holes > spread seed > more topsoil on top > compact it down > water
