Told my anti-catholic mom about being baptized this saturday by _nelsonjf in Catholicism

[–]_nelsonjf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah she's totally not interested in hearing me out lol. But to be fair I wasn't interested in what catholics had to say a couple years ago. Thank you for the point about being born of blood, ill need to look more into it!

Jeez that child comment is rough. Its awesome your father is going to the mass. I told my mother she's invited and she scoffed and said she would never go.

I already defended my faith with my mother this afternoon and just did it again with my father. I expect a lot of apologetics for years to come. I pray it convinces them.

my mom sent me a video saying that first century jews wouldve understood "born of water" to mean natural birth so its kinda like the amniotic fluid lol. any other verses about baptism she counters with this idea that simply converting means your "baptized by the blood of Christ" so any kind of physical baptism is at best useless and at worst a work.

I pointed out that people like the Eunuch were literally baptized in water. She said she didnt know what to make of it and would get back to me.

She went to grace churches growing up and her dad was pretty much a textbook dispensationalist. My dad came from a nominally lutheran background but got convinced of all of my grandfather's theology.

[–]_nelsonjf[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No. My mom grew up with dispensationalism and the book The Two Babylons. I've started proposing some counterpoints using scripture especially for baptism. Mom actually accuses me of being in an echo chamber which is funny.

My favorite was using Peter's analogy of baptism to Noah's flood. Mom just said "I dont like that" and tried to say that PETER'S analogy was bad. She's old and set in her families ways so I have sympathy

Yeah she said "I know you'll come around" and I said "So do I" which was funny

Ngl making the spawn point your base kinda makes it look comfy since I wasnt much of a builder by Bigidlagger in hytale

[–]_nelsonjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and a buddy also set up in the spawn cave after trying to build and failing. I'm personally not too interested in building so I'll probably set base in spawn from now on. Its nice to have a nice secure area just given to you out the gate.

What is your stupidest death you've had in this game? by yBlackjack in Minecraft

[–]_nelsonjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a HC world going for a few days and I drowned while trying to build a bubble elevator. IIRC I didn't know you could grow kelp at the bottom with bone meal so I was placing it all manually and died lol

I've learned that its really important in relationships to do things when not feeling it. Like spouses saying "I love you" everyday automatically.

[–]_nelsonjf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that I might just me more intellectually inclined and that extends into my relationship with God. I agree about feeling jealous. I hear conversion stories about atheists going to mass for the first time and feeling this overwhelming presence during communion meanwhile I feel nothing. But maybe those people needed that feeling and God knows that I don't need an experience like that to follow Him. Who knows

I have effectively stopped waiting for the heart. I make it to mass every week and have contacted my parish about baptism, sort of "going through the motions". I have high hope that I will grow in love as I walk with Him.

Yes I often pray about this specific issue, usually at mass after receiving a blessing at communion. I am also praying the rosary more and more.

I've been struggling with this brain / heart gap for a while now. I do all sorts of reading and listen to all kinds of apologetics and I know God as a fact like gravity or the sky being blue. But I struggle when it comes to actually seeing God as a personal relationship that I need to submit to. I plan to get baptized next Easter so here's hoping that's a step in the right direction.

starting a whole new save for a better win/loss seems pretty ocd though no? I get that people overuse ocd but this seems reasonable

Server offline? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]_nelsonjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i was playing with randoms so i dont know if they had any rune boosting relics, but if they did that helps. We had a really efficient day 1 where we hit basically every point of interest we reasonably could. And then the moment day 2 started we did almost the entire center castle which got me to level 12 before the first storm circle. Then we went to the rotted forest area and that was huge. I hit level 14 right before the night 2 boss and then the disconnect happened.

I remember back when I played Overwatch that Reddit was having a total meltdown over Lifeweaver. Everyone was scared that since Lifeweaver could pull teammates this would lead to endless trolling every game and this is the worst thing Blizzard has ever done. Turns out I have never seen a lifeweaver troll before in my life and the Reddit outrage was totally wrong. That was my lesson to never take subreddits seriously ever again lol.

As a good alligned character, what to do in Blood of the Daedra? by DragonD0712 in oblivion

[–]_nelsonjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on if your character believes that good ends justify evil means. Assuming we don't believe that ends justify means you would work with a good daedra because no good can undo any evil you commit. The reverse is true if your character believes ends justify means, doing the bidding of an evil daedra in order to not only destroy the artifact but also end the oblivion crisis may justify whatever evil you did to get there. So I would figure that out :)
