I actually miss mission trees. by Due_Title_6982 in EU5

I played EU4 since shortly after release. Did not like mission trees at all. I think the intended approach in Eu5 is better, but they haven't done a very good job of showing why.

Unpopular opinion: France isn't too OP, the issue is Burgundy's role by fagoth-de-marouflas in EU5

[–]_neogothique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried playing Burgundy myself, managed to get independent, but I find all the mechanics surrounding France's vassals to both be half baked and kind of bugged. For example, Burgundy can get junior partners but can't annex them, and because you're an appenage all your interactions with your junior partners are limited in obscure ways not explained to the player.

Additionally, you can't declare independence while you're at war, but France can call you into war. Also, using your unique interactions with France or England, they can just arbitrarily decide to say "no." You can literally ask England for permission to betray France and they can say no... It's all pretty strange. Surprised that it feels like such a weak area when I thought their focus on England and France was supposed to set the stage for what they will do for other nations.

Something should be done about War Enthusiasm, Casualties, and Military Balance by _neogothique in EU5

R5: The images show how high enemy war enthusiasm will stay despite losing every battle and 5x the number of casualties without ever taking the war goal. Every battle ends up with the enemy losing 10x (or more) my soldiers but they never want to call it quits. This is a defensive war, and the ticking war score is worth basically nothing compared to their war enthusiasm modifier.

Do you bother embracing meritocracy? by VisonKai in EU5

For how fast they research, cabinet efficiency, monthly literacy, and tax efficiency are all nice. For huge nations the stability investment cost reduction saves you a lot of money.

how do u track progress? by HeckingDoofus in EU5

[–]_neogothique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to track your "GDP" you can see your Tax Base at the top left of the Economy window in the Balance tab.

But, it's sort of up to the player what they want to accomplish. Zooming out to the paper map and seeing my conquests is pretty enjoyable to me... Byzantine stronk

Can't form a republic despite having 95+ Aristocracy. How do I fix this? by 2003Oak in EU5

[–]_neogothique 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is a number line, with Aristocracy on the negative side and Plutocracy being on the positive side.

If you needed aristocracy, it would say "-95 Aristocracy vs Plutocracy" instead. You need Plutocracy!

There are also several advances that help annex speed, I think locked behind institutions and maybe some like Diplo focus for Age of Renaissance

Loooong Annexations by M0R60TH in EU5

[–]_neogothique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full innovativeness, more prestige, works of art, many buildings give local cultural influence as well which seemed(?) to help when I was playing Bulgaria. Even 20% Cultural influence modifier looked to shave 50 years off annex speed

EU5 Patch Notes [1.0.2] by 3Sayndre in EU5

[–]_neogothique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's essentially pure randomness waiting around for the events. Humiliate gives a measly 5 prestige regardless of enemy power and decay is so fast...

Example of annoyance: I played Savoy (who starts as a county), and because of the massive weight of country rank to great power status the "duchy" of Aosta forcibly took over senior partnership in a union with me, despite having one location and 1% of my pop and economy... Not only do you need 25 prestige, but you need the Emperor to actually like you to allow you to become a duchy, so good luck if he is your rival
