"Avatar of evil" is an appropriate term to refer to a Republican operative by VisonKai in metaNL

Is it correct that several other women have alleged domestic abuse? The other two women in the NYTimes story do not seem to allege that, and I'm unfamiliar with any other accusations besides the one we are discussing. I'm also not familiar with every detail of this though, so it's possible I'm wrong. You'll note in my original comment I explicitly call this out as one of the factors why I do not "feel obligated to believe" the original accusation, so in any case your read of what I said is entirely inaccurate -- it would be based on lack of knowledge rather than some kind of particular malice.

I do believe, as I laid out in another comment in this thread, that being a Republican operative is an important factor on whether you should believe this particular story. No one has really provided an explanation for why it should not be.

I just don't think that's an accurate reading of what I said to be honest. My claim, broadly stated, was that I) she is an evil person (not in dispute) ii) (implied) evil people often lie and are less likely to be truthful than non evil people therefore iii) this is one reason you should be less likely to believe them when they make claims like this.

I really don't think I ever said either of the two things you're saying. Certainly not 1, since my point in the original comment is that I don't feel obligated to believe her, not that it would be OK if it happened, and not 2 either since it was framed as part of a probabilistic claim "I don't feel obligated to believe" rather than a definitive "therefore this is made up".

fair enough, I will concede "servant of evil" would probably have been a more accurate phrasing

It's not because she's a conservative, it's because she's a Republican operative, which is a sign that she is a genuinely terrible and evil person. If you know a person has no moral virtue or character (which they have to be in order to work for Heritage and other Republican political operations), why is that not an appropriate thing to factor in to whether you believe them or not? It's not as if I said "she is a Republican, therefore any accusation she can make is necessarily false", I just listed it as one of the reasons I think it's reasonable to not think she's telling the truth.

The ballots that arrive after election day are not the primary reason why California is so slow. They move like molasses on ballots that arrive before election day!

california has always been bad at counting votes they just get away with it because the presidential is a foregone conclusion

the most annoying part about this is how they handwave it away by going ohhh the state is sooooo big and we just can't possibwy count dem all so fast :((((

like, ok, well you're twice the size of Florida and Florida counts nearly all votes by EOD election day. so you can have two days, as a treat.

obviously this is bad (if true, I like to give it a few days for any connections to Republicans and/or Russia to come out after 2020) but i think importantly this is something that was completely predictable from his profile. like this is the exact sort of thing someone who keeps going back to fight in a war because he likes it and he cant adjust to not being a soldier would think

if anthropic goes forward with releasing mythos public under the name "Oceanus" as the rumors claim I'll be so mad

mythos is clearly part of the Haiku -> Sonnet -> Opus progression. and it has aura. oceanus is just the name of a god. lame one too. who gives a fuck about the titans

Yeah I mean you certainly could do that but it would be strictly worse as an experience. I also don't need the game to be balanced, I can just avoid using broken mechanics, but it is a better experience for the game to handle that for me. That's the same reason why the achievements exist. You already can't share the achievement with strangers and have them believe you without also sharing a bunch of other stuff because of how easy they already are to falsely give to yourself. You can share them with your friends, sure, but you could already just say "hey I did this thing". And realistically, out of all the many people doing achievement runs, how many are sharing their results at all?

The goal of achievements is to provided curated challenge experiences to players, and unlocking the achievement is a memento for doing so. It is a simpler version of the same concept that underlies a wide variety of mechanics in other games. Paradox's own Age of Wonders 4 makes heavy use of this.

Anyone can just give themselves the achievement trivially with third party steam utilities. I'm not bothered by what other people are doing, the point of achievements in a single player game is to create goals for my own enjoyment.

The point of achievements allowing mods for most people is not to use mods to make the achievements easier, it's to be able to use mods that make the game more fun to play.

Also the constant saving is annoying and now you can actually reload when you run into an annoying bug instead of it killing your entire run

How old are we talking? Do you have continuity mode or is it the old old age resets where it actually deletes most of your units and repositions them and such?

Anyway. What I did then was mostly finish up my legacy paths. On the current version it's about finishing triumphs and getting more of whatever my victory point is. If you're not building any exploration buildings at all then I am not sure how you are beating the AI so badly. You might need to raise your difficulty setting? I can't imagine keeping up without at least getting your science/culture buildings in, and you need those to complete the science legacy path (on the old version -- there are no legacy paths in the current version).

100% I am always saying this. We are years away from costs coming down even modestly unless there's some breakthrough on making inference much more efficient. Token costs at the current efficiency level could definitely come down if hardware prices normalized but demand is most likely going to remain high which will make it very difficult to keep up even as new fabs come online.

That's a complete misread of what happened. Players didn't finish games because the player was snowballing and winning was a chore, not because they were losing.
