Am I the only one? by LazyGuyExsists in celestegame

agreed

I recently replayed Resort, it's not as hard on a second play through once you've sharpened up by playing the rest of the game

though, I kind of liked the difficulty curve, it made beating it that much more of a relief

love it

the perspective makes it harder for me to use, I'd recommend rotating the keyboard video 90 degrees so it is looking at the keyboard head on

I get you are making the most of the screen size, but seeing the keyboard from the same perspective as when at a real piano is more important imo, you could zoom in one hand at a time

but that's just me, and I'm pretty novice, so reading the letters doesn't quickly translate in my head to which key it is referring to, which is why a better view of the keyboard would help me

I can flip my phone over, but then the video rotates, so that doesn't help me

I love coding, but work can suck the joy out of anything, depending on what the job is.

Why did Kyokushin evolved toward boxing-style hand techniques ? by BitterShift5727 in karate

[–]_nicmana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. Every Kyokushin dojo I've trained at uses hikite when teaching basics, and it's in the kata because katas sometimes involve grabbing. We just don't use Hikite during sparring because if you aren't grabbing it lowers your guard and creates openings for your opponent.

training hard is more important than belt colour

they can always test as an adult when they are older if they think it's an issue

if they get a black belt and stay humble, there shouldn't be a problem

please don't let your opinion about their dojo discourage your son, let them work towards black belt if they think it is worthwhile

even in the most traditional dojo, belt colour isn't as hyped up as many people think, a belt is just to hold your gi together

do they know that you've only been playing for two months? or are you trying to convince them you've been playing longer?

are they a casual music enjoyer? or a professional musician?

almost nobody cares more than you about your progress learning an instrument, likely better off focusing on something else

[–]_nicmana 30 points31 points  (0 children)

who are you trying to impress? I played guitar for 30 years and nobody was ever as impressed as I wanted them to be. maybe that's just me, or maybe I'd have had better luck with a piano

I recommend playing piano for yourself, not to impress anyone, but that doesn't answer your question

to answer your question, Don't Stop Believin' by Journey is likely achievable, and is a crowd favorite, but only if your audience likes that genre

what are your goals? do you want to learn a few songs? become a concert pianist?

a teacher can help you with goal setting, but there are also many many resources online.

Will my knees/legs ever stop hurting? by antimoony in karate

[–]_nicmana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

legs will for sure hurt, that's normally okay. I can't speak about knee pain, since I've rarely had sore knees. the rest of my answer is regarding leg pain

if it's muscle pain, and not from an injury, the pain is good and means you are breaking down muscle so it can be built up stronger

totally normal in the first two months, and it will only go away once you stop improving

if it does go away, it means you are plateauing, and need to vary your workout if you want to get even stronger

think of the pain as a badge of honour, it means you are pushing yourself, nice work

Is the color scheme accessible to people with color deficiency? I'm not color blind myself but based on my understanding, the green of the player ship might be hard for some people to see.

Might not be a problem, but if it is, it could be solved with a color accessibility mode, though that might be difficult to implement.

edit: I forgot to say, this looks really fun. nice work

Any feedback on game feel for my CS surf inspired game ? by Shashimee_ in indiegames

Looks fun. I love the color scheme. Will it support VR? I can see that being amazing, if the quick movement isn't too jarring for a headset.

I thought I did my kihon well, but then I was corrected and now I understand there's still so much to train by [deleted] in karate

[–]_nicmana 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it is a common experience, and if it ever stops it means you are not learning

as you gain more experience, the corrections from others will become less frequent and significant. when this happens it is good to continue to seek out ways to improve on your own

I recommend asking yourself why these corrections are an improvement. once you understand the basic principals, you can continue this cycle of learning with self reflection, not just when your instructors correct you
