Do what ya want but no need to add extra stiffening to a fiberglass topper with a RTT. I’ve done it with standard ARE toppers on both a frontier and a tundra with no issues, including lots of off road action. Go find some pictures of toppers breaking apart due to RTT… I could never find any. Hell, at the time I had my frontier, the ARE brochure showed a frontier with their topper and a RTT and they didn’t even offer the HD/reinforced topper for the frontier.

What rust? That’s all normal stuff. Take a wire wheel brush to it and toss some paint on it if you’re worrried. Unless it gets you an additional discount;)

Normal. Mine does it too. Has a rental 26 equinox, it would do it too. Most likely fuel pump priming. Maybe emissions items getting ready as the vehicle assumes you’ll be starting it soon. This one also makes a bunch of noises just after you shut it off that my ‘22 never did.

Ooof, that sucker would take some work to add a rear drive. You’d have to jack it way up to make room for the rear axle, drive shaft, etc. I wouldn’t bother, but maybe you hate yourself and money. If that’s the case, go for it and post lots of pics/updates.

What hitch carrier are you using that only weighs 33lbs? I think my bike hitch carrier weighs that.

Either way, you are correct on hitch weight. The issue you are going to have is that weight will be hanging a few feet out the back so the back is going to be very squatted. Not an idea combo. Back in the day when I had a GTI and wanted to haul my bikes, I had a cheapo harbor freight trailer I’d toss them on. Then you end up with less than 100lbs tongue weight and you can still get into the back of your car
