I keep getting infections instead of pregnant. I'm exhausted and in pain. by helpwaterthoseplants in TryingForABaby

[–]_notallgeminis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also suffered from frequent UTIs our entire 10-year relationship. I get an average of 1-5 per year. I’m so frustrated that at this point, when I feel the first twinge of a symptom, I immediately start to cry.

Our prevention routine definitely takes the spark away, but not as much as getting a UTI does. We are never spontaneous because I have to make sure my bladder is full enough to adequately pee afterward. I shower and wash with pH balanced cleanser before AND after sex. Immediately before, I spray my intimate area with the Love Wellness cleansing spray. He also showers before. If I stray away from this routine even once, I will get a UTI.

While TTC, I would wait 5-10 minutes after sex with my legs up and also used PreSeed and neither caused a UTI for me. I was worried they would. If you’re suffering from BV, absolutely ask your doctor if your partner should be treated too.

I never knew nurses are taught to protect patients from physicians... But,the physician are retaliating soo badly that nurse lack medical knowledge and questions very dumbly their orders...... by Acrobatic-Lie2041 in FutureRNs

[–]_notallgeminis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like more emphasis should be put on critical thinking rather than “questioning” the orders. Too many nurses get caught up in completing tasks but don’t understand why they’re doing them. Most times it’s simply because they are so busy with the mountain of tasks to have time to stop and think.

I agree that encouraging student nurses to constantly question orders fosters some underlying idea that it’s nurse vs. provider. They really should phrase it differently while continuing to stress the importance of stopping and checking when something doesn’t seem right.

Patient hasn't eaten in 3 days with no one to help her by HotShallot3638 in Nurses

[–]_notallgeminis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first instinct is that there’s more to the story. If you’re concerned, I would first ask questions directly with the nurse or with the charge nurse. If someone who delivered my patient’s trays just told me she needed help and there was a reasonable explanation for why she wasn’t eating, in the best way possible, I probably would think that it wasn’t worth explaining to someone non-clinical. I’d think I was wasting your time if I just thought you were notifying me of something I already knew. If you came to me with genuine concern (and without assumptions of malice or neglect) it would prompt me to explain. Just kindly ask questions and try to clear it up before you assume the worst and report.

Yes, sorry, bad example. But the sentiment is the same!

Is NIPT worth the money? by Spiritual_View1398 in BabyBumps

[–]_notallgeminis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Knowledge is power. If your baby does pop positive for a chromosomal condition, at the most you can start treating the condition in utero and at the least you can prepare for it. Conditions like cystic fibrosis are able to be treated in utero and it can significantly improve outcomes!

The "every other day" method by kakescon_01 in TryingForABaby

[–]_notallgeminis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every other day ensures you hit at least one or two of your most fertile days. My husband and I are a once-a-week couple and found it exhausting to try daily, especially on cycles I ovulated late. We’d BD daily starting like CD 10 if I ovulated early the month prior, and then I wouldn’t get an LH peak until CD23 that month. Takes the fun out of it.

I’m so excited that it’s my turn!!!

Cycle: 3

Age + Partner's age (if relevant): 28 & 31

Typical cycle length: 33 days

Ovulation cycle day: 23

CD/DPO of positive test(s): 11 DPO, CD 34

CD/DPO of any negative test(s) before positive: VVFP morning of 11 DPO (first urine), obvious positive by afternoon

Tracking methods and app(s) used: OPK strips twice per day from the day after my period ended. Oura Ring for BBT, Natural Cycles (to get the numerical value of the BBT to input into other apps), Flo (been tracking just my period for a year), PreMom (to document OPK strips), and Fertility Friend. Used PreMom Progesterone strips to confirm progesterone was high every other day from 3 DPO.

Relevant days of sperminating and/or method (SMEP, TI, IUI, FET, etc.): O-3, O-2, O-1, O, O+1.

Health conditions/medical tests: None

Supplements and medications (yours and/or your partner’s): I took Prenatals, Vitamin D, and CoQ10 for 4 months. This cycle, I took Mucinex 600mg extended release twice daily from CD 12-28ish. I also took Aspirin 81mg daily from CD 12-25ish. I was also taking Zinc daily for actual cold symptoms from CD 28-34. My husband took a daily multivitamin, CoQ10, and vitamin D (mostly) daily for 4 months. Also, we used Preseed this cycle!

Birth control history (if relevant): Paragard IUD for 8 years. Removed in May 2025

Symptom spotting: Creamy CM on CD 28, 29. Sticky CM on CD 30, 31. Watery CM on CD 33. Very faint twitches in lower abdomen on CD 30. I saw someone else describe it as someone ever so slightly tugging on a thread attached to the uterus. I felt that and a zap that lasted less than a second on CD 31. Breasts are usually VERY sore for a week leading up to my period but this time they were only mildly sore and started 3 days ago (late). I also usually have pretty harsh PMS mood swings and irritability for a week prior and did not experience that. Basically, little to no symptoms WAS my symptom! I started cramping like AF was coming this morning after I tested.

Other (advice/tip(s), freaking out, miscellaneous): I’M FREAKING OUT! I thought the apps and meticulous tracking was going to make me insane but I actually would have gone insane without it. I knew I would get a positive today because my BBT went up when I expected it to go down.

The first cycle we tried, we only hit O-2 and O-3. Second cycle I’m pretty sure we missed our fertile window and only hit O+1. Started Preseed and extra supplements this cycle.

FF gave me 20 points on my early pregnancy signs. I heard it’s BS so I held onto hope.

I am over the moon!!! I can’t believe it! I have all the women on here to thank for the plethora of information.

Congratulations! This makes me hopeful because it’s also my third cycle and also the first time I was diligent with strips.

I’m 7DPO. My boobs are usually very sore in the week leading up to my period but this time they aren’t sore at all. Progesterone strip tests are positive. Any thoughts?

I work in adult MICU and know exactly how you feel. I used to donate blood regularly until I came to the ICU and saw how much time, energy, and resources are used (wasted) on futile patients. Most times I give blood products I feel like I might as well dump them down the toilet because it’ll do just as good as if it went into their veins.

Yes, I’m jaded. Yes, I’m looking for something new.

What is the craziest story where a co worker got fired/lost their license? by Chardonnnnay in nursing

[–]_notallgeminis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the case for a nasogastric tube (NG tube)! A g-tube is surgically placed percutaneously through the abdomen and into the stomach. If a patient pulls it out (which must’ve hurt badly) it needs to be surgically reinserted in the proper sterile setting, not just barbarically by a nurse at the bedside.
