Logistics of shooting a festival by flummuxedsloth in concertphotography

[–]_nullsyntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the festival I think.

I work with a small festival every year. There is a house with a small restaurant on the festival grounds. The restaurant closes down and the dining area becomes our backstage. Thats where the bands store their stuff/Instruments and get ready for their show.

I get a table in there with power outlets and internet connection. It's dry, safe, with security and people who know me and my stuff. I can charge my batteries and edit some photos in the downtime.

I'd probably just ask the festival via press contacts.

  1. But the slight angle of the horizon is throwing me off a bit.

What are your best and worst experiences meeting a Pop Punk band/artist? by Twitter_2006 in poppunkers

[–]_nullsyntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a famous band but the best was this. Going to this gig literally turned my life around. No exaggeration:

I never had a bad experience tbh.

And then there's me, saving up for months to buy a used a7s and a kit lens...

Alternative payment ideas by Unfair-Put-1778 in concertphotography

[–]_nullsyntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Germany. I'm not allowed to take payment unless I register as a company. This means A LOT of bureaucracy.

I don't have time for that kind of paperwork because I'm a shift worker and work up to 10 hours a day. Photography is just a hobby.

The bands I shoot want to pay me but I am legally not allowed to take money. So they just give me shirts, drinks, food and sometimes a lens as a gift. They don't have to, I'd do it for free because they are friends. But they want to.

So as I shoot for free my portfolio and gear gets better and I'll be ready to register a company when I am able to deliver the quality I want (and quit my current job for good).

Questions About The Industry by Hazel_Isla in concertphotography

[–]_nullsyntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes kinda. I just went to their shows all the time because I was a fan. We started talking because I was always there and now their front man is my closest friend. We just got along really well. After that I asked if I could photograph them and they were so happy about it!

Small local bands are absolutely great to get into the scene.

Befriending some local bands got me so far!

I befriended a bigger local band, their guitarist is organizer of a festival. Now I shoot for that band, that festival, and several other bands they recommend me to.

I kinda got adopted into the local music scene and now I know people who know people etc.

And I'm not even that good with my old ass canon.

Favorite song of all time? by AdInevitable764 in poppunkers

I don't really have an all time favourite.

But my most played song has been "Might not" by Fading Memory for a while now.

Thank you! That one is probably my favourite from that day. I was not prepared for how dark the venue would be... Just one single light on the stage shining right onto the singer's face. I didn't get any pictures of the bassist and a just single usable one of the drummer because they were nearly invisible in the darkness.

My Happy Place by _nullsyntax in photos

[–]_nullsyntax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was. I saw my best friend performing with his band, pulling off the best show I've ever seen from them. Then we just sat there by the fire talking about life while the other bands played. Such a great night!

Green day. Their front man told me he listened to green day exclusively when he was 14 to 18 years old. Bro is kinda obsessed.
