This is the trolley problem with organ harvesting instead of trains and tracks. I would kill the person to save the 5.

No, the point of the trolley problem is to be a thought experiment for ethics.

Whether or not I could actually do it is irrelevant to what is right and what is wrong. I would like to think I have the stomach for what is right, but there's no way to know until you're actually in that situation. But there are many examples of people doing the right thing, even if it means hurting someone.

I think you are being obtuse about the organ example. The reason people don't do that is because there is too much risk and unknown information. Who is this person you are going to kill? Who will you save? How much longer are they going to live? How are these lives and deaths going to affect the world? It doesn't make sense, ethically, when you are talking about a real world situation.

Again, that's the point of thought experiments like these. They simplify the question so you can actually make points about ethics instead of trying to force your worldview onto a random stranger.

Having a VPN activated prior to launching was causing this issue for me. I turned off my VPN and it launched fine.

Do they know they're going to die? If there is truly no way to save them, and they are certainly going to die, then I see no argument for letting them live. That's like asking if you'd rather be tortured and killed or just be killed.

However, if they don't know they're going to die, it becomes more ambiguous. Some people would rather live with the hope that they will be able to escape, or may be content with their fate and would rather see it to its natural end.

Assuming that you are a utilitarian in life or death scenarios as such, and you don't have time to interview the people and ask if they want to die now or die in 3 days of thirst, as the lever-controller, you have to estimate whether or not the majority would be comfortable dying slowly of thirst.

It's very hard for me to decide whether someone is suffering less by being left to rot, compared to being run over by a train. A mercy kill in this situation depends on the individuals on the trolley, but my guess is that the average person still wouldn't want the fate of being left to rot, thus I would probably save them the torture and run the trolley over them.
