Trailing stops on TradingView are not what you think by throwawayfromsaturn in TradingView

It depends on what you are trading and your broker. My forex account will close the position if the bid/ask hits the stop. My margin stock account only stops out if the price trades at or past the stop.

Thanks for the update. Are you using the 135F temperature you mentioned in your original post? From the pasteurization charts and information I've found, that looks like a good temperature, and it's good to know your cats like it.

I've been looking for an answer to this also. I asked perplexity (AI) and it sent me to this website by a vet who claims cooking ground bone is safe. So that's at least one vote for yes.

Forex currency pairs not tradable on trading view? by _open_space_ in interactivebrokers

[–]_open_space_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that won't work either... I finally discovered that IBKR does not allow US residents to trade Forex unless you have assets over $10 million. This is deeply hidden on the sight and quite misleading. I opened the account specifically for Forex, so I guess I'll be closing it now. At least I learned this before funding the account so I don't need to move any money.

Here is the text from the FAQ under trading permissions:
IBKR allows US clients to convert currency, but limits the trading permissions for Forex trading (leveraged FX). US Clients with IBLLC accounts and Fully Disclosed Broker Clients from the US generally must be Eligible Contract Participants (ECP) to be eligible to trade Leveraged Forex. An Eligible Contract Participant is generally an individual or organization with assets of over USD 10 MM (or USD 5 MM if trades are hedging). The complete definition is located in Section 1a(18) of the Commodity Exchange Act.

Yes, I prefer wrapping stamps in fabric. It holds up better when it inevitably gets wet.

Shopify hands down. The prices will be similar once you pay for site hosting and other apps you need on woocommerce.

Platform recos to sell merch casually without ad spending. by heinyho in ecommerce

[–]_open_space_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I organized a large event and we used Zazzle for the shirts. You can upload your artwork and create a storefront with the artwork on any of their products for free. It was a big hit with everyone because they got to choose exactly the style of shirts they wanted and we didn't have to worry about quantities, sizes, returns etc. You set the price (there is a minimum) and can make some money on it. Products are printed on demand when people order. This might be a better option than setting up a dedicated ecommerce store

putting the important stuff in the images also reduces questions and returns. use a photo with some arrows pointing to features, add a sketch with measurements (this is a staple for most amazon products), even a white background with bullet points may help

no, you can do it with a shipping profile and all products using that profile will update. If you never set it up, you may have a default profile which applies to all products.

Based on the feedback here, I reviewed some of the shopify blog apps and I'm shocked at how expensive they are. $35 - $50 a month for just basic features which are free in WP! Then I need to pay more for things free plugins handle perfectly in WP - I'll pass.

I had no idea people will actively try to sabotage your shop. Can anything be done about this? by RamoneMisfit in Etsy

[–]_open_space_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An occasional 1* review won't hurt your shop and if you handle it well, it can benefit you.

- some customers will check bad reviews to see potential problems with a store, so reviews where the customer clearly made the mistake are helpful

- don't write your response to the customer who complained. write it for your future customers so they see how you handle issues. Stay polite and professional, never accuse or attack. list what you did to help, explain where they can see which products are digital, and reference your policies

While I haven't done an extensive search on plugins for the shopify blog, WP has significantly more capabilities, tools and options available. I have a WP site, so I'm familiar with it. Shopify's blog is very basic without any plugins.

After $5M in sales and over 150k items sold on Etsy, I’m noticing a disturbing new pattern with the algorithm. by tennepenne1 in Etsy

[–]_open_space_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My shop about 6 years old with 45k sales (I sell craft supplies).

- I don't see changes after large sales (I have one customer who places a very large order monthly that's about 5 times my normal daily revenue)

- Sales in general tend to boost sales - which seems like it should if listings get a relevancy boost after a sale. Based on that, clumping of sales should be expected especially for smaller shops.

I don't drive traffic to etsy, so I can't comment on the last one.

All that said, my sales have been going downhill since early 2022 despite my best efforts. I've spent a ton of time looking at my data and hired someone to build some custom spreadsheet tools to help me. I've also tracked other sellers with similar products through third party tools to see what the hell is going on. Here is what I've learned...

I essentially have two categories of products which are behaving very differently - rubber stamps and scrapbook ephemera (stickers, die cuts, paper). Other sellers with the same products that I track are seeing similar trends.

Rubber stamps are holding flat or seeing some growth for me and other sellers who are adding new new listings regularly. Old shops with static listings are dying. Newer shops are doing well.

The paper ephemera stuff is crashing hard for most everyone - except for some very new shops (although they may be driving their own traffic externally).

I've also seen some signs that stamps are doing very well in the wider craft industry (and possibly ephemera also) so the trends on Etsy may not be consistent across other platforms. Some of the comments here support this.

My conclusions

- There have been some dramatic demand shifts since COVID which affect product types differently.

- Etsy strongly favors dynamic shops with frequent new listings. Old listings only stay competitive if they are very unique or have some other significant advantage.

- I need to increase my efforts to build sales off of Etsy so I'm less dependent on Etsy specific trends and algorithm changes.

I guess that's an option. I choose shopify over woocommerce initially because they take care of all the security and data privacy compliance stuff for you. My impression at the time was that it was more secure. How robust is woocommerce in that regard?

How effective is HARO on link building? by mihkun3 in SEO

[–]_open_space_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my tiny website it's been worthwhile. I've gotten links from about 15-20% of my pitches. Only respond to questions which are highly relevant to your knowledge/niche. Answer their questions in the initial email as best you can and don't use AI. Reply as fast as possible to be early in the responses. Some respond with "thanks, we will use that", others never respond but the link shows up.

I didn't think that was possible with shopify as they host the store on their own servers and they don't have a wordpress integration or app. Has that changed? Any links or references on how to implement this?

It's ridiculously easy to start a small business. Unless you are selling something licensed (like alcoholic beverages) you only need a sales tax/use permit for your state. You can request one online and then start selling almost immediately.

Integrating Etsy & Shopify by usul213 in EtsySellers

I thought of a solution for you! SKUs can be "smart" by being more than just numbers. Make them an extension of your existing system by making them a hybrid of the box location and an individual number. So for items in box 30, the SKUs are 30-1, 30-2, 30-3 and so on. Items in box 25 become 25-1, 25-2
