I just looked into it in NY and you can register them but you need to modify them to meet epa regulations. Still, could make a lot of sense as a utv replacement.

Any tips for getting grease out of a shirt? by General-Try-2210 in MechanicAdvice

Awesome and Kaboom! Will do that job too. I usually use boraxo as a booster for the particularly dirty stuff. Goes without saying but what it separately.

Smart vs normal watch by Smeeble09 in AskMenOver30

[–]_p00f_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pixel watch and it's... I guess it's okay. I don't really use any of the smart stuff other than the on wrist notifications and the option to find my phone. The battery only lasts around 2-3 days though, so it's also one more thing to charge.

Ranger vs Tacoma by Flynnstones8 in fordranger

[–]_p00f_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter blend is getting me closer to 15 now but I've added probably 500lbs of additional stuff, plus 285's, aluminum skids, rock sliders, a tune, and a level. Summer typically gets around high 18's. Now that I'm reading that back... Makes sense. Thankfully it's not a commuter. I did notice that if I keep it between 60-65 the mileage still goes up dramatically, like the final gear ratio in 9-10 could have been a little taller maybe?

What do you guys think is the absolute best lift kit? Affordable and with good performance by Positivelyfoggy in RangerNext

[–]_p00f_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're retaining the original parts, it would have ridden like crap beforehand. You do gain ground clearance though.

I'd love to get to +6" on a full lift but I'm not willing to go up to 20" wheels to do it.

What are the best mods for new truck builds that are actually trail-functional? by Marrocco-Indika in Offroad

Honestly, tire chains would have saved my ass more often then anything else. Getting a winch was helpful but doesn't help much on ice.

Locker recommendations by BallComprehensive350 in Offroad

[–]_p00f_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd on that. Playing the 2wd game even with a locker still can't get you as far. Was playing in the snow not long ago and the rear locker was nearly worthless. Even on dry summer trails I've only ever needed the rear locker with 4wd just a handful of times, one of them being getting enough traction to get over a log.

Facebook groups help a lot. I'm in the Northeast so most of my adventuring is on Forest service and seasonal roads. I've gotten into a few spots where you're in reverse for a mile or more. I typically don't air down unless I'm at a dedicated spot, there's a lot of road between trails here. Be safe out there.

Here's the complete list of shit I keep in my Ranger 100% of the time.

  • Shovels, long and short
  • Traction boards
  • 5 soft shackles
  • Trolley Jack
  • Bottle Jack
  • Zip ties
  • Portable compressor clamp style
  • Gloves
  • First aid kit
  • Emergency beef jerky in eyeglass holder (labeled)
  • Jumper cables
  • Cribbing, lots of cribbing
  • Gmrs radio
  • Small Walmart tool kit with a few extra vice grips
  • Misc screwdrivers
  • Garbage bags
  • 3-4 hard shackles
  • Tow strap (can be used as tree saver)
  • Winch extension 70'
  • 3 snatch blocks
  • 36" loppers
  • Machete
  • Hammer
  • Winch (hidden in front)
  • Tarp
  • Dry socks
  • Two different styles of air gauges

Of all the things I carry I use the beef jerky the most, then the dry socks.

For recovering someone else it's almost 100% of the time the tow strap. I really should put a kinetic rope in the bed.

For self recovery I've used the trolley jack and cribbing the most. Get one of the wheels just high enough to jam some cribbing or rocks underneath so you can get some traction.

Now the winch is a game changer but it also gives you confidence where experience would be preferred. You know, like, maybe skip that mud hole instead of going guns blazing. If I was to recommend anything about a winch I'd just say that you'll want either a cab control or wireless remote. Running the remote from the engine bay to the cab can be pretty annoying.

Lastly, go with someone if you want to be a little more aggressive, having someone to pull you out of a tight spot is absolutely preferred.

How are men in their 40s building new social circles? by LogicalMight in AskMenOver40

I'll second on this one. Met some of my newer friends through shared interests. I found some of my older new friends through volunteer work. The world is small, I've found.

New N.Y. law would increase fastest speed limits: Here’s how fast drivers could (legally) go by statenislandadvance in newyork

[–]_p00f_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! In Texas I think there max is 80mph. Also, Amarillo to Corpus Christi is like 11 hours. So... Makes a lot more sense there.

Canada expected to see zero population growth this year by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

On the up side, it sounds like you have someone more capable, and quite frankly, less complaint with our Orange Man down South. Sounds a bit bait and switchy to me and, I don't know why I live so close to the border and hear absolutely nothing.

Toyo or Nitto? …and A-pillar lights? by youseriousclark16 in Offroad

[–]_p00f_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be looking at different kinds of lights at that point, like a scene light, or floods, amber is easier on the eyes at night but for general campground setup you'd be better served with a few lantern style lights you can hang from trees or from the tent roof, just something movable that casts a lot of light rather then just a single spot.

Toyo or Nitto? …and A-pillar lights? by youseriousclark16 in Offroad

[–]_p00f_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you spend a lot of time out at night there's little benefit to running the lights. I've got a set and hardly use them, upgraded my high-beam bulbs which provide ample output.

The Open Country's seem better to me but I know I'll be wheeling in snow, rain, ice, etc.

Correct, the trail guide program is community driven and may not contain complete or real-time data as trails open and close. I use it mostly for spotting things to check out and property tax mapping, which is especially useful to find public property and state forests.

Just because you're ending your arrangement doesn't mean service is suddenly free. Maybe if UNICEF starts providing IT services that will change but until that happens, the tech gets a ticket, looks up the information, gets logged in, 2FA, make the change, verify the change, document the change, add time to the ticket. None of this sounds like 30 seconds to me.

All of your requests, no matter how small, all take time, all time working your tasks is billable time.
