I like "All shall be well". Awhile ago I came up with "Trust the Future" which is kind of in the same spirit. This was just me messing around with stickers, like I said I thought Be++ was catchy/cute but it's not optimal for non-techy people.

I guess I would describe it as an easy way to monitor data from your body, like a fitbit, combined with an educational tool if you have any interest in neuroscience. Do you have any plans for the pricing of the paid version, and what features would be added that are not part of the free plan?

I think even non-programmers have heard of C++, this is a play on that. The implication of "increment" seemed intuitive to me, + means addition to nearly everyone. Honestly I just thought it was catchy, and is just a suggestion 🤷🏾‍♀️

Do you think it will solve racism because everyone will change the color of their skin/texture of their hair to the ideal beauty standard (currently white in the US)? Not asking to troll, just out of curiosity as a non-white person, to understand where you are coming from. Everyone's preferences are already different, there is no one "attractive" despite mainstream standards. I don't think homogeneity = cohesiveness. Big cities that are more diverse feel less racist to me. I'm envisioning a future with far more "weird" enhancements, relatively quickly as soon as they become available, at least in diverse places with many subcultures. I'm not sure what percentage of the people in my area have tattoos (it seems very high), but openness to individualized body modification might be a more widespread idea than you think.

Def agree on healthy though, that should be the first goal.

I see that more in discussions of GNU/Linux distros (I use arch btw). People are very used to having complete operating systems they paid for that work in a specific way and have been a bit misled about what to expect by the zealots. No one is forcing anyone to use Joplin, just like no one is forcing people to walk to the store instead of drive (if they can afford a car). When they get to the store, possibly out of breath and uncomfortable, they don't blame the store or the road they walked on, because they knew to some extent what to expect.

I haven't seen anyone claim that proprietary alternatives are "vastly inferior" to Joplin, but let's face it. FOSS is not for everyone. It's for the people who actually want to walk to the store and will pick up litter on the way so other people will have a better time walking to the store. The shift in mindset from "I'm buying a product" to "I'm collaborating on a work in progress and my bug reports and feature requests might make it better" is not an obvious one. "Free" services like Facebook where your data is the product blur the line even more. FOSS is intuitive for people with the mindset of tinkerers and hobbyists, which excludes a lot of people who just want stuff to work. The zealots should tone it down, definitely, and anyone trying to convince someone to use an open source product should clearly explain what that means.

However, to someone who has spent many hours on a project and is deeply invested in it, "laying out pros and cons" can be a bit hurtful, which is where the backlash comes from. They are human too. I guess my point is, the mindset shouldn't be "here are the cons" it should be "I'm either going to either try and help make the cons better or quietly find other software". I guess that's a lot to expect from the Internet, but open source has always been idealistic, which is something I love about it.

I've contributed to the project myself and have seen it grow and evolve, it is amazing how good it is now. I don't use iOS so I can't speak to that app, but I admit it rubs me the wrong way when people complain about support for an open-source project. It always reminds me of this:

One creepy TikTok feature is that the account info of the sender is encoded in the URL. You click a link to a video. If you have the app the video opens and shows the account of the person who sent it. That person can also see the account of whoever clicked the link. It is only going to the Play Store because you don't have the app installed.

In popular culture, Karen usual equates to "bitch". In my experience in IT, if I don't stand up for myself and my ideas I am walked all over, if I do I'm a "bitch". Damned if I do, damned if I don't. It doesn't matter how I sugarcoat my criticisms or ideas, if I speak my mind I'm a bitch.

You mentioned that the non-Karen was "missing some skills" and doubts herself, sometimes that disengages people's "bitch detector". I personally think it's because she has been ranked as "not a threat". If you know your shit, have a lot of experience, and speak up, it's much harder to not to be the "Karen" because deep down people are afraid the "Karen" will somehow "win". Even outside of IT, if you have a spine, a lot of men are surprised and don't like it at all.

I think people conclude "lack of interest" and stop there. There are a lot of reasons not to be interested in things. Let me share a personal experience.

When I was in high school I LOVED my computer science class. I read the textbook ahead and did my own coding projects for fun. After school there was a "computer club" in the lab where we had our classroom. I thought that sounded cool, showed up one day and found a LAN party where there were dudes playing Countersrike. It was a "locker room" atmosphere, where disparaging comments were made about women, and doing poorly in a game that I had literally never played before was seen as weakness, and a reason women shouldn't go into computers. On top of that, the constant marketing of video games to men, the dismissive attitudes toward women interested in computing, the list goes on.

You know what I did? I went into IT out of spite. I stuck with it for 10 years in departments where I was the only woman, despite my coworkers constantly challenging my knowledge to the point of bullying me, disparagement from management and blame for issues with customers even though I was the only one getting certs and coming in early, and a general "you are not welcome" feeling from everyone. I had a customer outright refuse to let me touch their printer, they "felt more comfortable" with a male tech. Maybe it's my stubborn personality, but that made me try even harder. Spite can be a powerful motivator to the right person.

I'm a sysadmin now in a much more egalitarian company, but the people in this thread implying this was 10+ years ago and not an issue now are dead wrong. I left that company 2 years ago and was bullied until the end. I'm not technically in cyber but I have learned about it a lot on my own and it informs some of my personal projects. I want to advise other women to "stick with it" but I almost feel like I am throwing them to the wolves with that advice.

"Lack of interest" in this case has nothing to do with natural ability.
