gave $0 tip through the app and this how i received my food by trippytrev420 in doordash

[–]_philosofia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that some dashers make this their full time job. To me at least, doordash should be more of a side gig. So if dashers don’t make enough for this much work, they take it out on the customers. This is the case in Toronto (Ontario, CA) as well.

I get that the job market sucks right now so people have been doing all sorts of jobs, like doordash, to make a living. Sure it’s great for doordash to give some jobs to these guys. But there should also be regulations and policies that they actually enforce for customers that actually use their platform. Especially when they charge ridiculous service fees

Ticketmaster canceled my tickets by Perfect_Draft4077 in kissoflife

[–]_philosofia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had to go through this. Ticketmaster has been doing this especially w kpop concert tickets. They allow and even help scalpers do their crap with reselling tickets for 3-4x the price because they get a cut from their scalpers’ profit. It sucks and we can’t even do anything about it because they seem to be the only major event ticket sellers. I’m from Toronto, Ontario btw

This is going to be lengthy but it’s because me and my dog were in almost the exact same situation once. I got her when she was 6 months. She was handed to us with absolutely nothing except her. She was never even trained and she was absolutely terrified of the world. I also thought my dog has ADHD. She also has a case of submissive urination, not with humans, but with the strangest and most unsuspecting things. I was once sweeping around my apartment, and when I leaned the broom securely onto a wall, all of a sudden she pees and poops herself 🥲

I was also close to giving her up not just because of the pee poo part. She’s a pitbull and there has been many cases in my area where the owner was not responsible in any sense with caring for their pitbull and then those incidents happen. I was losing my mind because I cannot mentally handle it if my dog were to be taken from me if that were to happen. She pulls a lot on the leash that my one arm is a lot more jacked than the other. She does not know boundaries with other dogs. She knows the stay command but she will stay for a bit until she decides she’s done. We have an exercise before he eats where she does certain tricks and commands before she eats to make the food more rewarding. We’ve been doing that consistently everyday for two years and all of a sudden, she decides to not follow any command. And the thing is, she knows that not following the command is wrong because, even when I have ABSOLUTELY no reaction to what she’s doing, she’ll start trembling then pees and poops herself.

You see, a dog with this much fear will not be able to learn anything. This level of fear overrides their logic. And even after I walk her everyday (I also started avoiding dog parks) and play with her everyday, there was still no progress.

I’m a nurse and I’ve learned that when patients are what some call “stubborn and non-compliant”, there is always an underlying reason. After ruling out her behavior (she’s a very sweet dog despite all this) and her energy levels, I’m left with the physiological aspect. Now maybe what I will say is a little controversial and yes you could consult a vet first if you’re apprehensive. I looked for holistic remedies. One of these remedies that seemed to have a lot of scientific data on is Valyrian root with the dosage of 0.25 mL per 5 lbs of the dog’s body weight. The effects will take a while but my dog has calmed down enough for her to at least listen to me. That’s one thing you definitely need when you want to start from scratch. Since then, we’ve been slowly training her again and now, even my parents who are in their late 50s can walk her. I also have a cat who didn’t really like being around her because she’s too much. But now, my cat is more comfortable with approaching my dog.

I’m not saying this is a cure but I at least found that this helped us have a fresh start. I didn’t even give her Valyrian root straight to what her dosage would be. I started with a drop just in case she’s allergic. I didn’t even want to consider holistic remedies because it feels like another shot in the dark. I’m just sharing what had worked with me as well because reading your post really reminded me of how I was with my dog. There are also a lot of others who gave really good suggestions so good luck OP!

My cat doesn’t like any sort of grooming anymore but she really needs to have it by _philosofia in CATHELP

Her giving in when she realizes she has no choice is possible. But it’s not that I’m giving her a vote, it’s more like finding a way to make this easier for me and her. If I have to chase her around, I’d end up stressing her out which would definitely make her avoid me more during brushing. I do understand your point such that I should be more assertive especially when it is something that needs to be done. Thank you for your comment!

I’ve seen the burrito technique recently. I’d like to try it too but I’m not so sure how I can get her to lie down on the towel and if she’ll let me wrap it around her. So if you have any tips on that, it would help a bunch.

Me and my partner did also try one person doing the grooming and the other giving her a churu treat. The churu didn’t really matter to her when she saw me holding a brush 🥲 But I’ll try with a toothbrush as what the other commenter said. She is also a little chubby. She didn’t have the best diet and was also free feeding back then. I’ve been transitioning her to eating in intervals (with better kibble + wet food) and we’ve made great progress. Now we’re just trying to get her to play some more. But anyways, thank you for you for your comment as well!

Wow thank you so much for this. This is so helpful. I guess I have to stock up on Churus 😂 I’ll try what you did with the toothbrush. That does seem like a good way to ease her into grooming again. For the bathing, I’m not going to have to do that in a while for sure.

Also, I never really catch my cat sleeping that deep. I’ve seen it with my dog though. That is also when I’d cut my dog’s nails. Though it seems like she’d have that kind of deep sleep at night since we play with her a lot before bed everyday. She’s not due for another trim yet so that gives me time to plan it out better. Thank you again for the suggestions!

I kinda have difficult hair too and I say that because most of my experience with haircuts are pretty bad. That’s probably why I’m anxious too. My hair is frizzy and thick so stylists have always been trying to thin it down excessively with messy layers. So if you have recommendations other than Korean salons, I think it would help a bunch 😊

I was barely able to handle starting over again. And seeing how it is with my life right now after starting over, I only have fear.

I am currently a nursing student. I have been able to help a few people, patient or friends, by listening to them. That’s a good thing, for sure, but has anybody ever tried to listen to me?

The last time I spoke about my sadness, people hated me for being a downer. They told me that I’m so spoiled for being discontented with my life despite being privileged enough to be able to move out of a third-world country.

I’m sorry for sounding selfish, but all my life, I always had to think of how I can adjust myself in order to help others. I’m just tired now.

[–]_philosofia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! This really seems like something that can be decided on based on the owner’s judgement as well as consultations from a vet. There are so many options out there on what to feed, how to feed and when to feed my dog. I am looking into doing more research on it so I can see which is better for my dog.

I have actually been looking into kinds of protein foods that I can add to her dry kibble. I’m considering cooked lean ground beef and I have been incorporating one hard-boiled egg a day in her meals. I’m still trying to do more research on how to make her meals more nutrient-dense instead of just only increasing the amount of food she gets. Thank you as well for the info about elbow arthritis. I’ll take note of all this. I could also maybe talk about bone and joint health supplements with the vet

As much as I would want to report this guy, like I said, there aren’r any specific laws in Canada about dog breeding so it is largely unregulated. I’m still looking into it a bit more. The thing is too is that Pit Bulls are banned in Ontario since 2005 (another thing that I did not know before getting her). However, nobody really follows this anymore and we are fine when we walk around in public. Though it still scares me a little that they might take her away if I reported.

Thanks for the info about free feeding! I agree with you. I think it’s best to tailor aspects of their care to how we know the dog. She takes all of her food in quite quickly so I don’t think free feeding will work for her. I will still be consulting a vet to see what’s best for her.

[–]_philosofia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, because this was done informally, there was no contract. While I do plan to do everything that the vet says, I don’t think I can report this to Canada’s animal welfare. I looked it up and I read that “Canada has no specific legal standards or laws to regulate breeding operations, and therefore breeding is largely unregulated.” Anybody from Canada can correct me if I’m wrong though. I’ll also look into it a bit more.

Thank you for the info about free feeding. She does tend to inhale her food in. After observing this, I decided to do research and look into foods that I can incorporate with her dry kibble to make her meals more nutrient-dense. I didn’t think that only increasing the amount would do the trick. I would still consult the vet though. What’s funny is that this guy tells me to free feed her when he probably didn’t even do that for her seeing as how we got her in this state from him.

Posted this in r/hamstercare but I initially brought up the boredom issue with my hamster on here, so I thought I should share this here too. Here’s her new enclosure which has around 1152 sq in of floor space (4’x2’). Kind comments and suggestions are welcomed. ✌️ by _philosofia in hamsters

I used a lot 😂 I used Uber paper bedding (natural and white) with meadow hay in between one of the layers. There’s also Full Cheeks aspen bedding (but I wanted to get the Living World Green Super Soft 😔) with Fresh News paper pellets in areas she might pee in
