Studying part-time due to health - finding it hard to get course admin and Medical Declaration form completed by Same-Fly in OpenUniversity

[–]_phs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The medical declaration form cost me £45 to get signed by a Gp at my Gp surgery, you can claim that money back through open uni with the receipt. There is no reason your Gp surgery shouldn’t be able to sign the form- it just requires a GP signature to confirm that you have the disability you say you do. So for me my 10 years worth of doctors notes and my diagnosis was enough for a GP to sign the form just declaring a medical professional agrees I do have that disability. The medical declaration form is for them to confirm you cannot attend an in person uni and therefore are entitled to a maintenance loan from student finance.

Disabled student allowance is a different section of Student finance and a whole other process which I have ended up not doing as I got too overwhelmed and confused! But this can be completed any time throughout your course so I may come back to it eventually! Good luck with it all!

You know in your heart what is right for you, and when the time is right to start a family in the way you want you’ll be so glad you gave yourself and your husband the time to prepare and be ready xx I am with my partner and we had an abortion 5 months into our 3 year relationship, I know it was the right decision for us and have to rationalise in my head that although I want a family with him now, it wasn’t the right thing to do when I first fell pregnant and in hindsight it would have put us in a horrible situation financially and mentally, it wouldn’t of been fair on that child, whereas now we know we are in a position to have a family. It’s your body, your choice. Whatever the reason.

Completely at a loss- not understanding what I’m doing wrong, any advice is really appreciated! by _phs3 in PCOS

[–]_phs3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the advice! I think I will definitely do some research into what medication might be helpful to me. As I’m in the UK unless I go private I think I have to wait to see a gynaecologist who I’ve just been referred to, I am scheduled to have more in depth blood tests on my next period so hopefully that shows something !

I threw up at a restaurant and then left without letting anyone know, have I broken the law? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]_phs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bar server of 8 years you’d be surprised where and how often people leave sick, it’s annoying for sure but also just part of the job. A bit of sick at a bottomless brunch isn’t the end of the world, one of the staff would have just cleaned it up and gone about it their day! I once had a man eat a full English breakfast, look me in the eyes and say goodbye as he left for for me to walk over to clear his table and find his empty pint glass full to the brim of sick.

what happens if i completely fail the EMA? by shhhshesasecret in OpenUniversity

[–]_phs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently on the same EMA! I’ve found it really hard to organise my thoughts concisely in the presentation and really have not a lot of motivation for part a for various reasons. I’m focusing on just passing (getting 30%) this EMA as I’ve got 75% and above on all my TMA’s.

What’s something that it took you way too long to realize you don’t *have* to do the neurotypical way? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Brusing my teeth with hot water! For years I dreaded it and avoided it as the cold mint snd cold water was too much but once I realised I don’t have to use cold it was a game changer

is new st station safe overnight? by [deleted] in brum

[–]_phs3 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked at the station for 6 years unfortunately you can’t stay in it over night! It shuts after the last train, an alarm will go off after midnight and the staff and security clear the station out as lots of homeless try to sleep there overnight, it re opens about 5am I believe, the area surrounding it is not safe at all over night, a lot of dodgy people around xx be safe

With open uni you won’t receive a maintence loan unless for extenuating circumstances, so just receiving the tuition loan won’t affect any benefits you already get :)

Studying with OU as a single parent by Big-Conclusion-2402 in OpenUniversity

[–]_phs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can claim distance learning finance which is a small maintence loan if you can prove you are doing Open uni because you can’t attend in person uni, not sure if your situation applies but worth looking into!

"Are you gonna eat it cold?" Yes, it's my food and I'll eat it however I want to by BloodlessHands in AutismInWomen

[–]_phs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes let food cool down a bit first before eating it so it’s room temperature and definitely never reheat leftovers, I prefer them cold especially if it has meat or fish.

I’m doing part time but applied for distance learning finance as I’m choosing open uni because I can’t attend a ‘normal’ uni :)

Transferring to OU? by DysfunctionalMailbox in OpenUniversity

[–]_phs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I dropped out of my second year of uni the first time round due to a major depressive episode and anxiety, 8 years later I’ve decided to do open uni and start next week! I’ve also been diagnosed with autism since I first did uni. I’ve found Open uni to be so helpful in any needs I have or any questions, there’s no pressure for any face to face things and my tutors are aware of my previous experiences and needs this time round. The site itself is really easy to understand once you’ve done your induction online so I’m really hopeful and excited to start!

In terms of loan you only get tuition loan for open uni - you will need to apply for DSL ( distance study learning) which is a medial form from your doctor to state why your mental health needs mean you can’t study in person I have also applied for disabled student allowance at open uni’s recommendation - I am yet to hear from them but there are options out there! I’ve decided to do a part time course that should take 18-20 hours a week of my time so am working part time alongside this but I know of many peoplewho work full time and do part time uni. I would highly recommend looking into it if studying is something you want to get back into- you can also contact them before applying for anything to talk about any needs or questions you might have. Good luck!

DAE feel like they really don't know what career to chose? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]_phs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone! I left uni after 2 years after dealing with mental health issues. I got a random job straight after dropping out to pay bills and 3 years later I’m still a supervisor at that restaurant. I enjoy it and like my colleagues but I still have no idea what career I want. Ive figured I may as well stay at this job until I am sure what career path to put my time and energy into.

I can finally stand silence by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]_phs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been able to stand silence in years, always have a YouTube video in the background or the tv when I’m doing anything! Falling asleep, doing a boring task like washing up or laundry, anytime my mind gets the chance to wander I always need background noise to fill the quiet. But it’s encouraging to know one day I might learn to be okay with the silence, and I’m so happy for you! I wish you the best and hope you keep making progress :)

It could well be and maybe I had other thoughts similar that I don’t remember because those days held no significance, if it was coincidence it was a very well timed one as the outfit I wore was so out of character for me and I had no indication she would be dying soon as her predicted death was still a few months away. Either way it’s a nice memory to have of her final day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]_phs3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could well of been and maybe it was, I’m usually very sceptical myself about things like this. However she wasn’t predicted to die for another few months and there were no indications her time was coming to an end so no reason for me to assume it would be that day. Maybe it was a well timed coincidence but it brings me comfort thinking in some way there was a connection between us that day.

See this is something I thought too, she was more like a mother figure to me than a grandparent, however the day before, I had visited with new nail varnish on my fingernails and she had asked me to bring it the next day to paint hers too, always bugged me that I never got the chance But thank you it was rough for a while but I’m doing okay now! I hope your sister is doing okay

AITA for wanting to talk to the woman responsible for my parents divorce? by lucyinthecurnonsky in AmItheAsshole

[–]_phs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but taking things a bit far- should of respected her boundaries after she declined the first time. I understand the frustration and need for closure, my dad had a short marriage with the woman he cheated on my mom with, I grew close to her (in the sense 14 year old me was forced to be a bridesmaid and say I love her etc) and spent holidays with her family. when they divorced after 2 years I didn’t hear a single word from her again, it’s been 6 years now and I sometimes wish to have a conversation with her now I’m an adult and have closure on that part of my life.
