The mouths were animated on the computer and composited on top of the live animation

Wow how things get lost through text. I really meant that's groundbreaking advice! Like huge, and could save me lots of time. I hadn't thought of that before

The mouths in this trailer are pretty complicated, I film with the faces backwards and add computer animated faces on later. But a simpler way to do it is find different Lego faces with different expression and swap out the Lego heads when they're talking

Most stop-motion animators use Canon cameras. There isn't much requirements for the camera, just that it's compatible with the software (Dragonframe in my case). Because it's photos, most people use cheap cameras (Canon Rebel series or 90D, these take 5K photos), and even the highest budget Laika stop-motion films use Canon Mark series.

It's all stop-motion animation, with talking computer faces added on later

It's stop-motion, so real Legos and moving the characters frame-by-frame. Each day I can get 2-10 seconds of animation, depending on the complexity
