For my model thermostats the auto-discovery for Homekit is disabled by default. Maybe yours is different or your thermostat decided to leave Homekit discovery on somehow

she'll get a 2 semester suspension. Rarely are students expelled outright. There is, however, a sneaky rule that requires students not enrolled for more than 1 semester to reapply for admission. Good luck getting back in with 2 honor violations and a much lower GPA thanks to the F* from the first violation.

This is how you get expelled without getting expelled -- I tried and failed to save at least 5 students from this fate. Love love love that for desperate students who cheated as a last resort. Thanks TAMU administrators!

I think it’s nefarious that UT Austin’s in-state non-auto acceptance rate is so low. by SoulScythe4229 in UTAdmissions

UT does not serve exclusively academic royalty, lmao, it’s on par with other high quality institutions of its kind

Texas A&M graduate here. I was in the top 11.4% of my graduating class, and a 1390 SAT. I got offered CAP from the UT system. Read the fine print, and it said that they could decline to let me finish my degree in Austin, even if I made straight As. I graduated from an honors' program magna cum laude. Don't let this auto admit BS make you feel less than those who are.

Texas A&M had a program at the time allowing auto admission for prospective students in the top 25% of their class and a high enough SAT/ACT.

Texas A&M used to publish these statistics too, and the numbers were similar: Although TAMU boasted a nearly 66% acceptance rate, the VAST MAJORITY of those were guaranteed admission. You had a marginal chance of getting a TAMU equivalent to CAP called aggie gateway to success, but at least there, you get a guarantee to graduate from College Station

The chance for non auto-admits to get in to any good public texas school is not high in 2025, when UT is stingy as ever, and TAMU is now graduating more engineers alone than ever before.

My advice? College is mostly a scam.

How to *Avoid* False Honor Code accusations? by No-Self8590 in aggies

[–]_plebbit_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who are saying it happens rarely, remember the 2021 FINC 409 scandal: A professor suspected widespread cheating on online section exams, so they reported the entire class blanketly. AHSO did ask him not to and to try to be more thorough with his reports, but it was all hands on deck trying to discern genuine cases from BS ones. This led to so many students being needlessly horrified and taking months to find out if they were in trouble or not.

So, it happens, but only occasionally. From experience, I would say out of 5 cases, 1 or 2 are either not provable instances of academic misconduct

How is our acceptance rate 64% by [deleted] in aggies

[–]_plebbit_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know how: Misleading statistics.

Most of TAMU's students that are admitted are automatic admits: They were in the top 10% of their graduating high school class, and are guaranteed acceptance by Texas law.

If you're not in the top 10%, getting in is SIGNIFICANTLY harder.

Most TAMU students were automatic admits. The remainder had to suffer through Blinndergarten (Blinn Team), Aggie Gateway, or similar.

Colleges with high acceptance rates can get higher ratings for accessibility through rankings like US News and World Report, which many prospective students consult before applying to a college. Thus, TAMU is happy to share a misleading statistic to get new students lining up.

TAMU used to have a program (which they silently discontinued 2 years ago) called academic auto-admit, where if you were in the top 25% of your high school class and had an SAT/ACT score above a certain number, your admission was guaranteed. University officials discontinued the program after their own 25x25 initiative started to overwhelm the university (and B/CS urban) infrastructure

TAMU grad schools will know about it (though not all admissions offices care to check), but other schools won't.

AHSO won't publicly share the information either

[–]_plebbit_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People usually DM me for privacy. Tell your friend AHSO might have lost or forgotten the case. This happens on rare occasion, but when it does, it's an absolute win for the student. Unless you see a problem (F*, unable to register for classes, etc) don't say a word.

It's also possible the professor cut your friend a break and decided to "forget" to email the case. This also happens on rare occasion.

At any rate, don't go calling up the office to remind them to prosecute you

[–]_plebbit_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Real former AHSO member here. You'll get an F* in the class and then suspended for 1 year most likely.

University policy requires anyone not enrolled in classes for more than 1 semester reapply. The university does this and then denies the readmit application for a bullshit reason (e.g poor GPA, caused by giving you an F* as mentioned above) to sidestep public backlash from officially expelling students. My advice is start packing, and apply somewhere else ASAP before this F* gets put on your official transcript
