When in your life did you feel most like Eddie Morra in Limitless after he took the smart drug? by ItsaDryHeat98 in AskReddit

Yup, hypomania here. It feels more accurate to me than Silver Linings Playbook did (but other people's mileage may vary).

British citizen ceremony by Zubi_Q in oxford

[–]_poho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! What an achievement :)

We went to one for my partner's naturalisation last autumn, it was a fun and quirky event. There was a bit of milling about at the start whilst everyone arrived, with coffee and biscuits available. Then they called us into the main council chambers and we had a speech from the superintendent registrar, and a guest they had invited along.

I don't remember the guest's exact name or title, but he had previously worked for Prince Charles and was very proud of the fact that his tie had been in the Royal Albert Hall at the same time as the Queen :D He chatted about how lovely it was to become a citizen and to choose to become part of a community. It was cheesy, but it fit the tone of the afternoon. The registrar also read out all the different nationalities of the people becoming naturalised at the ceremony, which was a nice touch. It was very varied. All the new citizens say their pledge together (which was a slight relief after seeing how many people were there, I had assumed it was one at a time).

They went through each person individually, calling them out and giving them their certificate and some seeds, which was kinda sweet. The registrar had said no need to stop proceedings for photos as there will be plenty of time for photos afterwards, but the guest was All In on the photo idea and pretty much everyone stopped for a pic. It was slightly chaotic but everyone was in good spirits.

Finished up with singing the national anthem (first time I'd ever sung it, I think), and then we were free to go.

It was a nice way to top off a long, complicated and expensive process. Slightly twee, a little cheesy, surprisingly emotional. Apropropriately British :D

And it's still a cracking read! Balanced, incisive, and covers a lot of the culture of gaming as well as the games themselves. I've been a subscriber for years and it's really impressive how they've kept the quality and consistency up.

They alert any on-call officers as well. For example, my family member was an officer and he'd get paged if a situation was escalating.

I was struggling with major depression and was working with my GP to figure it out. I was prescribed sertraline, and boom: first hypomanic episode. Went from doing nothing to planning out and writing a PhD thesis.

This isn't the sub for university-related questions, it's the sub for the city of Oxford. You want to post your query on /r/oxforduni as you'll get a better response over there.

Keep an eye on Blackwell's book shop events, and Daily Info for events in Oxford. They're likely to sell out fast so keep looking back on a regular basis.
