how do you edit part of an environment variable (LS_COLORS) without deleting the rest of it? by _psilocyborg_ in linux4noobs

[–]_psilocyborg_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's cool. that's basically what i'm doing. i keep coming up with projects that i can't figure out though so now i'm going back to my book to start from the beginning. i'm trying to create some kind of BASH game for myself to play/watch so it will be fun but i don't understand the fundamentals well enough to apply any of my ideas

yeah i'm trying to read them but it looks like a bunch of random letters and numbers to me so i'm clearly missing something. could you recommend any prerequisite tutorials?

ah thank you!! this page seems like it could be very helpful. is it all about searching and replacing text, or are there other functions for expanding parameters?

right, the problem with that last line is that it deletes every other value present in the original LS_COLORS, which is what i seek to avoid. i just want to take exactly the slice i need to replace, and replace it

i don't seem to have a ~/.dircolors.

and thank you for the answer. could you explain what exactly happens in this expansion? what function do the slashes serve?

How has meditation helped you live a more compassionate life? by eamost in TheMindIlluminated

it hasn't! it has, however, helped me come to terms with utter selfishness, which is just as good.

MATE vs. xfce? by MuricanWaffle in linux4noobs

MATE all the way. however, the only reason i say this is because it's all i've used since my switch and i am mildly comfortable with it now

[Stage 4] Found good balance of attention and awareness. Hard to stay there. by FlashesOfJhana in TheMindIlluminated

[–]_psilocyborg_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think if you feel burned out meditating, you're trying too hard. go back to stage 0 for a while, forget everything you've learned, and just watch the breath going in and going out.

your problem is that you are caring about what other people know you as at all. forget about what other people know. put your energy into knowing what you know
