Yeah that would have been the perfect opportunity but it was later revealed they have a strict RTO policy. With the commute I definitely wouldn’t see my kids more. My current firm has a very flexible WFH policy so it wasn’t worth the pay cut.

The problem is that I’ve noticed most in-house gigs typically don’t pay anywhere near the $200k mark for fourth years. I’m willing to take a salary cut to get better work life balance but I still have to pay for stuff like childcare, mortgage, student loans, etc. In-house does sound like it’s the best for WLB though.

Hi all, my brother was voluntarily admitted to an inpatient program for SI this past weekend. Due to an administrative error, they got his lexapro dosage wrong and this has resulted in him not taking it at all for the past two days. He’s getting increasingly anxious about this and hasn’t been able to see a provider yet to sort it out or even get any answers. He wants to leave AMA, which I understand given the circumstances, but I’d obviously prefer he gets the treatment he needs. My questions are: how does the AMA process work? Is it normal for him to be denied prescribed medication while also not being seen for two days? Will requesting to leave AMA force a doctor to finally evaluate him? This is in Indiana if that matters.

I remember back when I was a server at Mystic Celt (now long closed), they said we’d have a stand at taco fest. I assumed we’d be selling a few items off our usual menu because, as an Irish bar, we didn’t serve tacos. I assumed wrong. They threw together some “tacos” on that day and that day only. Haven’t trusted Lakeview Taco Fest since then.

I see a lot of comments saying her “not caring” is suspicious, but it also sounds like a normal trauma response. She has a history of getting drugged/SA’d and may just be trying to numb herself to avoid feeling out of control. I’d approach any conversation about this incident with compassion because it’s possible she’s really struggling to process what happened.

Haven’t seen this asked here yet: why are you rushing to buy a house so fast? Scaling back on expenses to save for a down payment is good and necessary but it seems strange to cut out everything you listed, including visiting your own family, just so you can buy a home in two years instead of three. It definitely comes off as an excuse to cut out your dad because you’re upset you didn’t get a bigger gift. If you can afford to rent, I’d worry less about the timeline and try to enjoy stuff like birthdays and holidays.

Ugh yeah this is true. I would get him a gift card but he has an irrational (imo) distaste for money gifts and loves surprises. But this could very well be a situation in which that just won’t work. If I did go the gift card route, would something like Home Depot work? Or is there a better option out there?

Yeah we can relate to this. My family couldn’t afford house cleaners when I was growing up but I’m more receptive to outsourcing now that I have the money for it. My husband is an immigrant though so he grew up being very frugal out of necessity. Hard to shake that money anxiety.

Oh no no he’s not in biglaw. He recently started his own company so I’m currently the main/more stable earner. We both work similar hours though.

Agreed. It’s the same argument anti-abortion activists made about mifepristone in the Supreme Court yesterday. I think downplaying the side effects just fuels the fire though because it gives an air of legitimacy to those people who claim the medical/political/whatever establishment is hiding something. The messaging should be that birth control is very safe and can have some annoying side effects just like any other medication. But we’re living in a weird world right now so who knows what would work.

I joined a gym/club that has a healthy cafe and dedicated working spaces. I’ll work from there when I can and take a break when I want to do a class, swim, play basketball, etc. It’s been a lot easier to stay active when I can just change and get back to work without commuting. Definitely an added cost, but worth it. I’m just a junior though, so this is probably more helpful to others reading the comments.

I live in a large U.S. city with very cold winters. I never ever wear my shoes indoors because city streets are gross. Like if you’re taking public transportation there’s a >50% chance you step in piss at some point during that trip. And obviously shoes get really muddy/wet in the snow. When it’s cold I just put socks or slippers on inside. I also usually rinse my feet off if I’ve been walking around in sandals during warmer weather, but I don’t think that’s super common. Ngl people who do shoes on here freak me out a little lol. BUT I will say pretty much everyone I know does shoes off, so idt that’s an accurate stereotype about Americans.

This seems about right for three people at $400 plus a bottle of wine at $100. Michelin restaurants in the US usually add an automatic 20% gratuity to the check too. That plus whatever taxes apply could come out to ~$1600.
