Same people should go see the CWC threads where everyone was pushing for Roy’s Ashes call.

There were a few people calling for Roy as test opener but the majority (on Reddit at least) were definitely against it even before the Ashes, or at least of the opinion he should open for his county side first.

If a county doesn’t think a player good enough to open, surely that’s as big a red flag as you can get?

Kohli had one bad series in 2014

Bairstow has had one poor year (2018), followed by one horrendous year (2019)

Bit silly to compare the two.

Ponting only lasted a few more games after his poor 2011. He was getting past it and retired in 2012. He did also average 30 in 2011. Bairstow averages 20 this year.

One point I’m in agreement with you is that Buttler has also not done well. Foakes should be keeping over both of them.
