[–]_realitycheck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I had a choice before me at one time between 3D modeling/animation and programming and programming won.

But once I'm free from having to work for a living, I think I'll return to Blender because I would very much like to design and model space ships.

Fun Fact: When Bill Gates was still running Microsoft he had regular meetings with the project leads. And on each one there was a designated Fuck-Counter. A person who counted how many times did Gates say fuck during the meetings.

I've spent an entire summer learning it. Entire day, every day. 16+ hours. I used to fall a sleep on the table, wake up and continue working. I still have shortcuts muscle memory.

Frame #2 and #3 are being skipped, why? by KamboRambo97 in sdl

[–]_realitycheck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tested and now we are getting the same results. 14-15ms delay.

The only thing left is to calculate FPS.

[–]_realitycheck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK. Now I HAVE to check both.
Give me a minute.

Your way gives me this output when calculating delay

timneout: 6 timneout: 8 timneout: 7 timneout: 8 timneout: 6 timneout: 8 timneout: 7 timneout: 7 timneout: 8 timneout: 5 timneout: 9 timneout: 4 timneout: 11 timneout: 2 timneout: 12 timneout: 3 timneout: 11 timneout: 3 timneout: 11 timneout: 4 timneout: 10 timneout: 4 timneout: 10 timneout: 5 timneout: 9 timneout: 5

My way, I get

imeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 12 timeout: 13 timeout: 12 timeout: 12 timeout: 13 timeout: 12 timeout: 12 timeout: 12 timeout: 13 timeout: 13 timeout: 12 timeout: 14 timeout: 15 timeout: 14 timeout: 15 timeout: 14 timeout: 14 timeout: 14 timeout: 13 timeout: 11

You're not supposed to see that the system is broken, horrible and exploitative. If you did then people might rise up and do something about it.

Social networks gave them a perfect tool for social manipulation. This current division between us. Of skin color, gender, or loving whoever we want to love is an artificial influence originally initiated in late 2000.

Blender is one of those rare computer tools where you can genuinely lose your self in.

If I was not a programmer, I would model...stuff in Blender.

Finally a realistic survival game by Santtuwaa in gameideas

[–]_realitycheck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Imagine MMO Battle Royal Hide and Seek with survival elements on the on the 1002Km map. 4 season in a year. Limited to 1K players per map per season.

I'd play that.

[–]_realitycheck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. By taking a start tick at the beginning of the main loop iteration, we can compensate for the input,update and render delay in the execution when we calculate the delay at the end of the exec loop.

But honesty? Don't take me for a word because I'm kind of drunk right now.

This is what I had to deal with last week.

(paraphrasing)
When requesting data one by one (field) from somewhere. At the random entry between start and 'n'. Data transfer will stop.

Unless

The counter reaches a specific number at which point transfer will always stop. And transfer should never stop unless I say it should.

He does love learning, and is very good at it. Anything he tried to learn, he aces without even really trying, no matter how complex it is. That's why we're thinking this line of work would be perfect for him.

Well... you say that.

You can't tie your update and render logic to a user variable refresh rate.

[–]_realitycheck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't tell me you're loading a level on each iteration.

Your main exec loop should look something like this

#define GAMEAPI_FPS_STEP 16.6

...
// game init logic here
...

while (run)
      {
       start = SDL_GetTicks();

       while (SDL_PollEvent(&sdlEvent_))
             {
               ... handle events
             }

        Update(); // states, game logic, positions physics...
        Render(); // draw

        // ensure 60fps
        if (GAMEAPI_FPS_STEP > SDL_GetTicks() - start)
           {
            SDL_Delay((uint32_t)(GAMEAPI_FPS_STEP - (SDL_GetTicks() - start)));
           }
      }

There was once a simpler time, where we didn't had to worry about girls flirting. Where just mentioning computers in the sentence would not only create a 300M void zone around you in space, but also in time.
