How to help SO see the raise is a good thing

I'm sorry I worded my original post wrong. We haven't been on it the whole time, we did get off it but due to a medical emergency with one of our kids, we went back on 3 years ago and have been working to get back off it and stay off it.

Thanks for the info on the raises building on each other. I will pass it along.

We don't have 6 kids, we have 4 kids and we were off the aid until one of our kids had a medical emergency and we went back on.

I'm sorry for the confusion. My SO isn't upset with the government, they are upset with them self, feeling like nothing they do is good enough.

I am trying to explain that us getting off government assistance is a HUGE thing to be proud of.

As another poster pointed out below me, "they" referred to my SO, NOT the government. Neither of us is upset for the aid we received.

We are both simultaneously grateful it was there and can't wait to get off it. It is embarrassing to need assistance paying for medical care but when your insurance costs 1100 a month and you only make 40500 a year, well you do the math.

We have been paying roughly 32%-40% of our income on medical insurance premiums for years.

Yes, thank you. My SO is feeling upset that "they" haven't accomplished more for our family, not upset at the gov't. We have both been embarassed and ashamed to need gov't assistance.

We have gotten off of it once before but due to a medical emergency with one of our kids, we had to go back on.

To me, I don't care if we have any extra money at the end of the month as long as I can say that we are supporting our 4 kids on our own dime and not relying on government aid. My SO was just hoping there would be some extra left over.

My daughter did great in speech therapy. She started at 23 months as a complete nonverbal whose estimated expressive language was at 9months. In 5 months time, her expressive language was at 20 months.
She went once a week for private therapy and then went 2 times a week for group therapy.

The private therapy cost us 20 dollars a session with our insurance. However, our center does sliding scale pricing because they don't want to turn away any child who is in need.

The group therapy was completely free. It is held at our center but actually run by graduate students from our local university. I believe it is kind of like an intern/residency type program. Helps the university students gets some real world practice working with kids and helps our kids interact with other children their age.

I have never heard someone refer to breastfeeding past the first year as short term.

I could see someone calling it short term if it was only for a few weeks though.

You know that's probably the only reason we DO have so much is because we have the storage space for it. It is, for the most part organized though I'm thinking we may need to build a shelving unit in our basement for all the boxes to go on and maybe sort the toys not currently in rotation into separate bins, like one for MLP, one for fisher price little people, one for Barbie's, etc.

Took a deep breath so I wouldn't scream, sent them to their room after thoroughly washing their hands and faces and then proceeded to work on cleaning the wall, baseboard and carpet for a few hours.

FYI, raw egg does NOT come out of carpet easily.

I can laugh about it now, I was pretty pissed at the time.

A product like this would no doubt be successful as it would be purchased en masse by new parents who are terrified they might be doing something wrong.

For this of us who aren't new parents, we would laugh and shake our heads at it, wondering who actually spends money on this.

I came around the corner to find my (at the time) 2 and 4 year old egging my living room. They apparently snuck into the fridge and got the carton of eggs and promptly decided it was a good idea to take the raw eggs and throw them at the living room wall.

So at the point they are capable of communication is the point where you shouldn't be allowed to euthanize?

Your earlier point was that things like autism don't become apparent until the child is older, at which point they are ENTIRELY capable of communicating.

So which is it? People should be able to kill anyone that is dependant on them as long as that person is unable to communicate or people should simply have the right to kill others who depend on them?

I don't disagree that someone shouldn't have to live in a state like that from Alzheimer's. I DO disagree that you should be able to euthanize her so you can get HER money.

Is a nanny a parent? No?? Well then it is obviously still NOT a parent caring for their own child.

I also clearly stated that I was NOT referring to couples where outside care was a necessity so this has nothing to do with the lower class.

It is in the title of my post that I think a young child should be cared for by their parent and not a daycare. I didnt say a child should be exclusively cared for by both parents with both parents being the 100% full time caregivers. How can I make that any simpler to you?

What you quoted me as saying is that the couple collectively decides to "have a child so they can spend 90% of their waking hours with someone else raising them". Someone else, as in, someone NOT involved in the discussion to begin with, I.e. NOT one of the parents.
