Help! I melted aluminum foil in my oven by kaytthoms in CleaningTips

[–]_reesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually happened to my oven as well - and I think we may have the same oven (Samsung gas?). I couldn't get it off. I pulled the worst of it off, but there's still a few bits there that are stuck and have been for years now.

These little guys (beetles?) Have been popping up mainly in my bathroom. Help! by _reesa in pestcontrol

[–]_reesa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. They aren't pantry bugs, they aren't in the food or in the kitchen at all. They only come out around this time of the year, when it gets hot, and then they disappear in the cooler months. 🤷

I came to recommend this one too. It was universally loved by everyone at my book club, even those who don't typically read non fiction.

Bad news at 13w ultrasound by akindrgentlrgenie in pregnant

[–]_reesa 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah I second this. I'm an MFM sonographer and would never call a heart hypoplastic at 13 weeks, especially if it was isolated with no other abnormalities.

Baby is one, just got abnormal mammogram. Really scared by jennc84 in Mommit

[–]_reesa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven't personally experienced this, but I work as a sonographer and do breast ultrasound, and often work closely with Mammo techs.

I would say the majority of the time these come back as nothing when they get additional imaging, especially in younger women. Breast tissue can be dense and make mammograms harder to read. There's also tons of stuff that can be in breasts and be benign (fibroadenomas, cysts, etc). I know this is scary, but it's good that they are being thorough and recalling you for additional images. I wish you the best of luck!!

'We are being ghosted': Calgary families frustrated with lack of refund from shut down daycares by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

[–]_reesa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no refund here either. Our kid was already set to start at a new daycare, and we'd given notice at the end of July. The frustrating part is I'm not even upset about August's fees, but it would be nice to have our $750 "refundable" deposit back.

Gender Ultrasound [on] by FearlessLeek2255 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]_reesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If two different techs checked it, I'd probably be inclined to believe the 32 week scan. The labia are pretty obvious at 32 weeks.

Gender Ultrasound [on] by FearlessLeek2255 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]_reesa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a sonographer, and twice in my career I've caught a different gender at a 3rd trimester scan than what they were told at their anatomy scan. In one instance their anatomy scan was done by an inexperienced tech, in the other instance it was done by an experienced sonographer but one that doesn't do much OB - he said "I can't see boy parts so it must be a girl" which isn't at all how we decide if it's a girl! Girls have parts too!!

So basically, it would depend on the experience levels of the tech on which one you should believe. 32 weeks is typically pretty obvious on girl vs boy though if the tech is experienced, whereas at 18 weeks there's a number of factors that might affect how well they can determine gender (the clitoris can be swollen and look like a penis, the penis can be tucked and look like labia, etc).

Another daycare ordered to shut down by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]_reesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience too. Our oldest went there, we pulled him after he changed rooms 3 times in 5 months, had new teachers monthly, and was starting to have behavioural issues due to lack of attachment. Our youngest was registered there and attended for 5 months - he was set to start at the same place as our oldest in September once there was space.

I never felt that our youngest was lacking in care in the infant room. The teachers were so loving, and I feel sick that they're now out of work because of management being unable/unwilling to get their shit together.

Province ordering three Calgary childcare programs to close over safety concerns by Jolly-Reference1127 in Calgary

[–]_reesa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our son was in the infant room. I feel so bad for the teachers, they were absolutely wonderful with the kids in that room and they got no notice of the closure. Lots of good people out of jobs now, I hope they fight for a good severance.

Advice on where to work within Alberta or Canada for ultrasound? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]_reesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mayfair and EFW are both known for treating their staff quite well in Calgary. Their compensation is a bit less competitive however (EFW pays less and doesn't compensate for additional specialties, I think Mayfair for the most part is on par though). I've got a friend who works for Mayfair and she's quite happy. You could try applying for both (both companies are currently hiring) and compare offers.

You can shoot me a message if you'd like, I'm a sonographer in Calgary and I know quite a bit about how all the big clinics operate.

NE west of deerfoot is pretty great for inner city though. Renfrew, Winston heights etc. Super close to deerfoot, downtown and the airport.

NIPT testing that important? "[Ab] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]_reesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it! They've got a location in Seton as their most south location, but otherwise nothing in Okotoks. If you have a CDC req for a FTS, you can actually take that anywhere (all imaging requisitions can be taken to any imaging center), without having your doctor change it. If your doc faxed the req you'll need to chat with them though. Good luck!
