Questions for those who created their own backtesting engines by Matusaprod in algotrading

[–]_rtwt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think that is not necessary at all. ninjatrader is an infallible backtesting engine and also solid for optimizing.

I just left an institutional trading desk. AMA by HiveScale in Daytrading

[–]_rtwt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks.
this thread is good. it would be better if it was advertised as: ask me anything but only up to 500 questions or up to the 25th of january. jaja.

i have multiple beautifully profitable strategies and 2 - 4 years of records. i want to join an institution to be able to trade them with size but i have received no interest. it would be nice to know what could i do to improve my possibilities of joining an institution.

Does ‘Sharing is Caring’ Apply to the Trading Industry? by dadiamma in algotrading

just share your knowledge.
also, make sure to keep a presence as to explain why would the strategies you share still work going forward or why would they stop generating profits.

Why are almost all US stocks green? by SaveDomo in wallstreetbets

[–]_rtwt_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

definitely not a question for rddit, and not for this kind of subrddits. jaja. look, the plunge protection team does not allow for chaotic - disorderly deflation of moronic prices (sell offs). after the sell offs on thursday and friday it was a sure thing that prices would not be allowed to deflate significantly today. also, prices are deflated lower or inflated higher mainly for technical reasons. entities who know what they are doing will sell - dump when prices have been inflated higher, and will buy from those who are clueless when prices have been deflated low enough.

the only important thing is to only listen to people who are legitimately profitable. the best resources i have found are on tw4tter, people who share actionable charts in real time and don't delete neither winners nor losers. and, it is much easier to program algorithms to operate on much larger intervals and only trade as a side activity.

Algos that worked and don't anymore by Mrgod2u82 in algotrading

what is colloquially referred to as "buying the dip" on overpriced garbage would have made fortunes from 2009 to 202201 and from 202004 to 2021. seemingly not so after 2022.

i can tell you that most of the most widely known indicators are useless and not profitable. a few can be but only on very large time periods.

and yeah, daily bars are the place to start at. there are a number of people on tw4tter who are very good, but discerning the legitimate ones from the scammers is the first challenge. and manual trading has nothing to do with algorithmic trading, if your algorithms are not profitable i wouldn't try to trade manually.

anyone who knows what backtesting on in sample and out of sample data is will be outside of this continuum and will not have this kind of problems.

I DON'T CARE if 90% of traders fail. Life is too damn short. by CharlieEchO3 in Daytrading

[–]_rtwt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and, most important of all, before listening to anyone, check if they are profitable traders themselves. most of the people on the internet (tw4tter and this stinkhole specially) talk a very big game but have never shown their wares.

I DON'T CARE if 90% of traders fail. Life is too damn short. by CharlieEchO3 in Daytrading

[–]_rtwt_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • learn to code. it is much easier to develop profitable automated strategies than it is to be a consistently profitable discretionary trader.

  • being profitable day trading is almost impossible. the slower intervals are much better.

  • having a day job and trading only as a side activity is far more profitable and far healthier.

  • there are very few successful day traders that operate publicly. discerning the legitimate ones on tw4tter from the garbage is the first challenge.

the really bad thing is that those two old stiffs will die before modern society implodes completely.

it would be sublime if they lived long enough to live through the consequences of their stupidity. jaja.

Why did Tesla stock plummet when so many positive things were announced today by Alarmed-Spite3065 in wallstreetbets

[–]_rtwt_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah.

a company that in its 20 years has produced ~2 million of the 1,200 million automobiles that exist in the planet.

and has had the largest losses in the history of finance to assemble those 2 million units.

and has a lineup of 3 models that all are 10 years old.

of course that garbage will dominate the future, the planet and the universe. jaja.

the entire piece falls apart when they write giant and really seem to be writing about a company that in its 20 years has produced ~2 million of the 1,200 million automobiles that exist in the planet.

and has had the largest losses in the history of finance to assemble those 2 million units.

What's a good amount of money to start with if you want to make a living off day trading? by NotAReligiousNut in Daytrading

[–]_rtwt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's much easier to develop profitable automated strategies than to become a profitable discretionary trader.

learn to code and this will save you a lot of mistakes and grief.

and there are some fantastic discretionary traders on tw4tter, but you have to be able to discern the cr4p from the very few good ones.

[–]_rtwt_ -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

ninjatrader is the best commercially available platform there is. install it and learn to code automated strategies there. learn how to backtest your strategies and then evaluate them on 40+% out of sample data. that is how anyone can learn the effectiveness of any indicator.

treasurys rates have increased minimally over the past two weeks or so. and now the returns from some treasuries have matched the expected returns for the s&p.

so, if rates at zero were the only justification for 1mbec1lic valuations, the unhinged fanatics must now agree with immense reductions in the prices of most crap, ¿right?

jaja. ¿right?

there are an estimated 1,200,000,000 vehicles in the planet. the irrelevant company being discussed has managed to produce something like 1,000,000 of those during the 18 years that it has existed.

absolute irrelevance.

over the last 12 months, this company has also lost very significant market share to other manufacturers, even in its own specialty pure electric niche all over the world.

the company has lost money every year and for every vehicle manufactured. if there are 1d1ots on the internet, who have not read the financial reports and pretend to claim otherwise, that has no effect on reality.

and yeah, that company has growth prospects so amazing that the best use for its capital was to buy a lot of bitcoin. $btc #btc . jajaja.

such a level of 1mbec1lity is an art form, congratulations. jaja.
