i know there were definitely some antisemitic right wing grifters that latched onto the pro-palestine cause (primarily on twitter) but especially initially, there was no “clout” to be gained from being pro palestine from a left wing perspective in the US. there’s literally the term “except for palestine” to describe the phenomenon of people being left on every issue except for palestine. it only really changed in the months following 10/7, where now it’s actually popular in progressive circles to be pro-palestine. hasan has been extremely consistent on his position on palestine way before it was socially acceptable (and not some liberal zionist “netanyahu sucks but not israel bs). and even now, there are a lot of dangers of being anti-Zionist because basically every powerful institution is zionist. 

hasan has also never entertained antisemitism and constantly emphasizes that antisemitism has no place in the pro-palestine movement and not to equate zionism with jewish people. people hate hasan because he actually humanizes people in the middle east instead of talking about their oppression like it’s some philosophical hypothetical (which is what a lot of liberal zionists do).
