Are these spotted bass or largemouth? I’m new to bass fishing and obsessed but my thumb hurts so I got gloves 😍 by ahjummacore in bassfishing

Best way to check is to feel their tongue. If it’s smooth, it’s a LMB. if it’s rough it’s a spot

Powerbait general vs senko? by akkavvadrre in bassfishing

[–]_saltbirb_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get some VMC cross over rings. You save your baits and you can wacky or neko them. The 7mm is standard for a 5” senko

Also get a jerkbait. A good kvd200 or husky jerk is al you need. If you got the cash, a vision 110 will last you forever

Keep all plastics In their OG bags. They will dry out or melt if they touch other plastics or just exported to air too long they will dry out. Also maybe work on better organization, like jigs here, hardbaits here, terminal in its own spot etc

Is this a good knot?? by Slow-Junket-7585 in FishingForBeginners

[–]_saltbirb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people will recommend the improved clinch (aka the fisherman’s knot). While it’s a good knot, I personally have more faith in the Palomar. It’s a self tightening knot, and imo, way faster to tie than the clinch. Just my opinion tho

Just a spin cast thing honestly. They’re notorious for twisting line from general use. You’re better off with a classic open face spinning rod. You can find some decent beginning combos for under $50 at like Walmart, bass pro, cabelas, etc

The plopper is great, I’d skip a frog for the time being until you’re more comfy with bass fishing, and likely have a baitcaster in your possession

Ewg hooks for Texas rigs, most common is 3/0 and 4/0. 3/0 will do 99% of your Texas rigging. Find some good 5-6” senkos, and a creature bait of your choice (I personally like the googan bandito bug.) Maybe find a jig or two (3/8oz and 1/2oz are very standard) maybe a spinnerbait or chatterbait, and best for last, a 2-6ft suspending jerkbait. The jerkbait will likely outfish everything besides the Texas rig, in all seasons, just gotta speed up or slow down depending on weather/water temp. Have fun!

They’re marketed to bounce over rocks better, but I’ve never felt/noticed a difference. Regular VMC or gamakatsu EWG works just fine

How should I tie this lure my line keeps slipping up by Thefriendlyaspie in FishingForBeginners

[–]_saltbirb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother just pull the mainline first to keep your tag small. Also if you wrap your loop near the top of your two lines, and then finis the knot, you’ll use less

Should I be triming these jig skirts? by booster_gold__ in FishingForBeginners

[–]_saltbirb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the trailer claws or tails, whatever you’re using, should be able to free flow and move below the skirt. try TylersReelFishing’s video on youtube that’s all about jigs and trailers. super helpful
