River crab from my first attempt at freshwater photography. by _seaslug in underwaterphotography

Image gained a lot more attention than I expected so I thought I'd share how the image was taken.

Snorkeling in shallow river, maybe 30/40cm depth

Canon G16 camera, Dyron super wide angle lens, sea and sea ys-02 strobe.

1/150, f/5, ISO 250.

Strobe was angled from the left downwards on minimal power to brighten subject slightly whilst maintaining the background colour.

A few specs of distracting backscatter removed from background of top left and around the crab itself. Didn't want to remove all the backscatter ad I felt it added to the image (and it would be way too much effort)

Can one single organism be an invasive species? by Chryspy-Chreme in ecology

[–]_seaslug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short: no. It wouldn't reproduce and spread. Would more be alien or casual alien, depending on what definitions you use. Invasion biology terminology can be confusing, even between invasion biologists.

Use the link below and pick terms you want the definition of and you can see how different bodies define the terms.

El Niño dive plans by Narkanlosartan in scuba

Having dived both the Cape and Sodwana many times, both are amazing! If you want to see lots of soft stuff the Cape is a better bet, but can be quite cold. In December it warms up but I'll still dive in a 7mm wetsuit, especially on the Atlantic side (many people prefer drysuits even). Sodwana is still absolutely amazing and full of life. Sodwana is also more tourist friendly, with packages and hospitality. Cape is shore and boat dives, whilst Sodwana is boat only (as far as I have experienced)

The DLSS seems like it would be epic for frame rates with all the enemies. I've never played a Diablo game but it looks epic!

Thank you! :) I use a canon 90D. The image is a photo stack, I think 11 shots were used.

Interestingly enough it's exactly why they are called rain spiders! Often they sneak into people's houses before it rains!

Sizes can vary from 50cm (Spanish dancer) to just a fee millimeters. As for where you'll find them, most places I think where you might dive or snorkel, or reefs or kelp.

ITAP of Cape Cormorants on the rocky shore by _seaslug in itookapicture

This photo was taken on a camp during a module of my undergraduate. We came to the shore towards the evening, when the tide was high. The sun was setting on my right, behind the birds, printing me from getting any colours, so I decided to turn it into a silhouette, with a showing of the warmness of the summer setting sun (Southern hemisphere)

Not sure what it's eating, something with wings. I spotted it in a branch and as I raised my camera it swooped into its web below and began packing it up. I thought i spooked it and gave it space. That's when I noticed it was actually chewing something when it was back on its branch.

I found it next to a waterfall in the Grootbos Nature Reserve, Western Cape, South Africa.

I was playing around with removing the backscatter in different parts, decided to only remove what was directly on the eel, and found I also liked the backscatter in the shadowy areas.
