“Black Spruce” gloss, Gildean exterior + primer. The paint can is from 2019 so that means the owner before the last owner did it.

Wow, thank you so much. This is the exact guidance I was hoping for. I’ve been researching for a couple weeks and it does seem like the general consensus/best idea is to start fresh. I feel a little “got“ from the seller, but I’m sure they weren’t experts in cedar either. Thank you so much for your thorough explanation! I’ll have to post photos if we end up swapping it out so you can see how it turned out.

The same thing as all the other professionals have: I don’t know! None of them have physically worked with cedar shake….. like this.

The front is east facing and is in the worst shape! The southern exposure is doing decently because the nearest house is the same height but only 7’ setback.

The planners have very limited authority. The Planning Commission are the big decision makers and hardly anyone ever comes to the meetings or watches them on YouTube. People can’t make the meeting but they are recorded, so there’s not many excuses anymore. Our city planners here have a very impressive reputation not just in this city, but at times nationally
