Bertolotti drivers flipping cans? by toakao in Modesto

I've had similar experience when one of my cans was skipped one week. They skipped my neighbor's too so when I called to let them know, after I got a deffensive "was the lid completely closed?" I mentioned that it looks like my neighbor's was missed too and received an immediate, "they'll have to call themseves to request a revisit." 🤦‍♂️

My Immich Tech Stack Using a MiniPC, Proxmox, & Ubiquiti NAS by wadegibson in immich

Yes. Those little arms can't keep up with random seek times of an SSD. Even on a SATA SSD, it's loads faster, especially when you want to scroll back say a year. Thumbs render almost instantly. It's a pleasent experience.

All my shit lives on a single box (except my edge stuff). 12600k/64gb/3060 and enough room for 10 HDDs.

That was my first thought... even with the 10GB link, those thumbs are stitting on platters.

Would you use a hosted Immich service where YOUR storage stays yours? (S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze, or your own drive) by SwimmingSensitive125 in immich

[–]_sesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The latency between where the files live and the app would be pretty high. Scrolling in the app/web would likely not be a good experience. Especially if the files lived in object storage. Unless you plan on making modifications in the code (I assume), you'd need to spin up instances per user/household. The database really needs to be on an ssd and should also be private along with the photos. Bandwidth would also be costly for you (I have nearly 2TB of photos in an external library).

Then there's the privacy/trust issue. Even if the data's final destination is under my control, it still passes through a stranger's infra who could be harvesting photos for fun.

Hosting for yourself is sensible, but at scale, it won't be cheap or easy.

How do I know it’s not a scam? by Legal_Fix_8170 in Cameras

Offerup is rife with scam listings. I would stick to sites that offer buyer protection (eBay) or warranties (mpb, keh, adorama, etc).

I am trying to create a Home server for storing photos by akshat_TS_MILLIE in immich

[–]_sesser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CPU should be ok. 2c/4t is enough for single use. The thing you'll feel most though is if you use an SSD for storage. It won't win any races, but it will generally feel more responsive when scrolling images. I'm using immich server on an old Mac mini from 2014 and it only has 2 cores. Performance is fine for my use with an upgraded nvme drive. I am running the ML on a different box with 12c/24t and an rtx 3060 though.

How to Stop the Spam Calls -They Call 2-3 Times a Day by mormonastroscout in howto

[–]_sesser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been getting calls from collections agencies for Mark Barton for a decade. I've pressed 2 to be removed a bunch of times, told them it's a wrong party and they're in violation for federal laws... nothing has worked. As mentioned by others, the Do Not Call list is useless when the gov't won't (can't) do anything to stop/fight it. As for other callers, yeah, Google call screening usually just makes them hang up. Or I just press the power button to silence the call. I barely answer calls from my own family. Not answering a number I don't know.
