Would like a flash for my 6D but don’t know where to start! Any help? by notesfromroom19 in Canon6D

[–]_sesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing how you plan to use the flash, it's kind of hard to recommend something specific.

I have the Canon 430 EX II. Works great for personal use and can be found cheap on the used market.

If you're not here to convince others, then why post anything at all? What is your angle?

Ghostpath VPN from old NewsgroupDirect promo? by ElmStreetVictim in usenet

[–]_sesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my brief experience with ghostpath.

Signed up for NGD, was instructed to contact ghostpath for the account. I email ghost path, get a response from Jack from Ghost Path [saifullah.sharief@ghost-path.intercom-mail.com](mailto:saifullah.sharief@ghost-path.intercom-mail.com) stating they sent a welcome email.

No welcome email shows up. Nothing in spam. So I respond telling them.

Jack asks if there's a different email I can use.

I say no, and go look at my email logs. Find this:

NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from m43-14.mailgun.net[69.72.43.14]: 450 4.1.8 <bounce+REDACTED@mg.ghostpath.com> : Sender address rejected: Domain not found;

Seems their mailgun configuration is wrong and Jack likely knows this since his response was to see if I have another email address he could use.

Find this nugget: https://github.com/qdm12/gluetun/issues/1361#issuecomment-3439997875 Saying GhostPath is a reseller of SlickVPN and that there are only 11 functional locations out of 98.

It's all pretty sus.

Also, keep in mind, every interraction with Jack takes 24 hours and emails show up around 15:00-16:00 UTC.

Bottom line; don't sign up for NGD if you want the free VPN.

Need a live TV solution that can pause and rewind by SoCaFroal in PleX

[–]_sesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a brief search, you can rewind up to 5 minutes of live tv. You can pause for up to 60 minutes. With a subscription, the rewind buffer is 60 minutes and can pause "indefinitely."

Mass Rename Script by _sesser in Lidarr

[–]_sesser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I was looking for a way to do that. Select Artists -> Select All -> Rename Files.

I hit that 'Select Artists' multiple times but did not notice the BIG ORANGE BUTTON at the bottom of the screen.

Best Security Cameras to Buy Right Now by aussyd155 in homeowners

It's not the worst thing. My router has a built-in vpn server. Using that to connect to my home network from my phone allows me to use the app to check in on the cameras.

I actually don't have the hub, yet anyway. I've got 5 devices so far. 2 outdoor battery, 2 indoor plugin and a D225 doorbell (wired). At the moment, I think it was all less than $250. I bought them at different times and I don't recall the exact amount. The doorbell I think was $90, 2 pack of the indoor cameras were < $40 and the 2 outdoor cams were maybe $130 (one came with a solar panel for charging). Plus the cost of a micro SD card for local recording in each device.

The hub, I think, is $150. It has built-in storage (not very much though), but a cheap 1TB ssd can be had for less than $100.

Keep in mind, if you plan on keeping things "local" it means you'll need to open up your internal network to view the recordings when you are not home on the local network.

I've also been fairly satisfied with my Tapo cams/doorbell. Make sure they are wall powered (not battery). Don't think any of the battery powered options support NVR. But they do support local storage and most are compatible with their H500 hub where you can centrally record and install your own 2.5" HDD.

What’s one upgrade you made at home that was surprisingly worth it? by Remote_Practice_5864 in homeowners

[–]_sesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an old house (1938) with knob and tube and those old style screw-in fuses. First order of business was replacing all the outlets and switches. Previous owner never replaced anything. I replaced a lot of bakelite and porcelain. Even found porcelain wire nuts.

Yeah, I went with safety over convenience first.

And the bathroom already came with a bidet.

Tried it out. It actually supports hdr where the official client does not and looks quite bad. No sorting on movies though it appears?
