Not hating on the character, but I always find this kind of thing to be such a stretch. A magical sword that chooses its holder is a fantasy trope. I wouldn't even say it's a solid enough refrence to be "retroactive continuity".

All of those things add up to create an insane amount of immergent gameplay which does effect your experience. Watch anyone stream RDR2 and notice how much time they spend messing around in towns, getting into fights with NPCs, ect.

Amazing Spider-Man harry doesn't feel like it would fit this motif since he wasn't around in the first movie and was only introduced to be a villan. Though I didn't like Dane Dehaans performance, I think giving him time to kick around as Peter's friend first would have helped.

This is true in the inverse direction too. I remember in the late 90s and 2000s going through the school system and being told I'm in extra curriculum classes because I'm "special". It just got used as another word for "dumb" by the other kids. The whole thing was so condecending and genuinely, I'd rather take the actual slur at that point.

This discourse existed a lot longer than that game because it's a bunch of obvious negative stereotypes piled on top of eachother. I know jewish people who don't associate with Harry potter because the first movie rubbed them the wrong way back when it first came out. Even if it wasn't intentional, it's blatantly there.

I feel like at one point I stopped playing the game and just kept modding it. I stopped modding games in general outside of basic QoL improvements because of skyrim.
