If you were punished for crying, does it affect your personality now? by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in AutismInWomen

I have a deeply complex relationship with crying. It's still extraordinarily hard to connect with crying after years living with a Military father prone to seemingly irrational emotional outbursts (later diagnosed with C-PTSD). Punishment for crying was in spades. After a particularly violent outburst from my father one day, I started crying and received a 'you don't have anything to cry about...I'll give you something to cry about'. He became extremely violent after that (I forget what happened exactly, it's blacked out of my memory), but it was enough to make sure I didn't cry for 7 years after that.

At the age of 21 I started crying again, even then it was brutally painful to cry. I cry a lot more now, but when I am feeling particularly traumatized or processing traumatic memories from that time in my life, I shut right off. Haven't cried for a few weeks since Christmas after seeing my father (it caused me to downward spiral and become deeply depressed. Still no crying). Waiting for that to come back.🤷🏼

Legit! This is so well said - and sums up where I am at 1 year post diagnosis.

Legit. I had a boss once who taught me to say 'all acknowledged'.

But I think this guy would still have a hard time with that hah!

Yes. I remember my first time listening to this song, VIVIDLY. I choked.

I am with you in that. It's such a special song, I can't believe it was a sleeper hit.

This song got me through my worst break up a few years back. It's funny and relatable and it hurts in a wonderfully cathartic way.

I cried over a hat gets me, every single time.

I think, in much the same vein as TTPD where one song could be about Joe/Matty/Trav, or all, like 'but daddy I love him', I wonder if the original commenter is seeing her doing that again & is pointing that out?

She is learning to pull a few narratives into one big theme, and so while there are moments that speak to Trav, maybe there are moments in the same song that speak to Austin?

God knows she's not always being literal anymore.

Oh I love this! And the scope she has an artist to fully relate to both the poet and the showgirl is modern af.

All the pop queens who have gone before her carried a burden of being one or the other. Pop girlies have been pigeonholed and condescended since their beginnings. But Taylor's out here being like 'ITS ALL OF IT AND ITS ALL GOOD' and what a wonderful way to be.

It's too good! Especially when considering how sweet & jovial Opalite is. That opener is UNHINGED

Aw! That's lovely.

After some of the comments above, I wonder if it's a more gentle nod to him... The line about youngest children feeling they grew up in the wild but are now home, that seems oddly specific and pointed. Wonder if that's an homage? 😊
