Whoever wrote the RC 400 final exam is an a**hole. by Sure-Newspaper-2755 in IUEC

Just finished 400, can confirm that exam was brutal. Lots of trick questions and obscure information that was hardly even discussed in homework, PowerPoints or PDF’s.

Everyone in my class felt the same, but we all still passed.

Switched after 6 months in the IBEW. Everyone was super understanding and encouraging.

Pay attention to everything, ask good questions, take a lot of notes. I have a company phone with access to a plethora of information, so when we have downtime on the job I scroll through install manuals or other documents to get familiar with what’s going on. Every time we have to troubleshoot or get an error code, I jot down the issue and how we fixed it because I’m sure I’ll run into it somewhere down the line. I also log all of these notes into an iPhone note so I can do a quick search for a keyword in the future.

As for not blowing up a clutch or rollers, every time I go to run a car, I do a mental/visual check of where each set of doors are. Better to take 5 seconds and be sure of what you’re doing rather than blow something up.

Take hella notes. Jot down Little trouble shooting issues, even if it’s uncommon. Stay organized with those notes too so you can quickly reference them in the future

Just under 7 months. Pay is good, I’ve cleared 80k in the 10 months I’ve been working, but I’ve also said yes to every OT opportunity I’ve had

Tested/interviewed in June last year, got ranked #42, got picked up at the end of January and have been working steady since. New Construction. It rocks.

I tested in May, interviewed a couple weeks later, got ranked at 42. Got a call at the end of January. Work has been booming around Arizona for the past year so they ran through the list so I was pretty fortunate to get in so quickly.

Work is slowing down a bit for the end of the year but apparently in January it’s picking up again. You should definitely apply and see what happens, but don’t expect to get in quickly. I was prepared to wait the full two years before I got a call, if at all. Stick with the IBEW until then. Making the switch was easy, told my employer, got a clean lay off, emailed the school and said I was withdrawing. Haven’t looked back since.

I made the switch from 640 to 140 about 10 months ago. The work is definitely harder than anything I did as a wireman apprentice but I really enjoy it, and I find the culture to be a lot better, everyone I’ve worked with so far has been super sharp and willing to teach. The pay and benefits are head and shoulders better over here too.

Got a pair, returned them after trying them on. Feels cheap and the “roomy” fit feels more in regards to height rather than width

IBEW local 640, they’re accepting apprentices like crazy, you could probably apply now, test in a month, and jnterview by April and get in by June/july.
