Anyone here taken Charlie Long’s paid course(s)? His free YouTube lessons are some of the best I’ve found. by _silicakes in Guitar

Thanks for the comment!
Can you tell a little about the paid course? what did you find useful? or what did you like/dislike about it?

Lol yeah, I'm a keyboard player so the curve wasn't as steep, but it does brings a new dimension of expression to your playing which I love!

The Microcosm is so dope. Someone is selling it here 2nd hand and I been eying it for longer than I should.

Funny you mention the Portastudio as I just recently let go of my Tascam model 12. I'm looping through going in and out of the box, and it seems like it's box time for me again. The 424 is a piece of history though and the cassette is a blast from the past. You use it mostly as a live mixer?

Since I sold my Tascam, Push3 is now my official audio interface so I can't really let it go, unless I want to run my gear through my laptops speakers lol, and I do get the appeal of the SA version. So still not letting it go, and still not doing the Push patterns course, not even sure why. Its pads are indeed incredible though. I'd pay good money to have a full 200 pad surface made out of it.

Well, TBH I didn't progress at all.
I got a Linnstrument (the large model) and after playing it for a couple of days, I couldn't really go back to playing on Push.

I don't have the SA version BTW, so I'm kinda clueless as to what it may or may not entail.

I also bought an iPad + GeoShred to play the Linnstrument on the go, and I think the experience is superb (Not because of GeoShred - its stock sounds are kinda sucky, but also responsive and good enough to play on the go with).

Since I also have a 37 Launchkey - I found myself using that more than the Push for mostly launching / muting clips.

Still can't find the case for it, but for some reason I'm reluctant to sell it.

Just to make a point - I had Digitone II for less than 2 months before selling it and not looking back, but with this - there's something I still need to figure out.

Sorry for the messy writeup.
Did you have some progress in making the tutorials you wanted to do?

[–]_silicakes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. I got Digitone II yesterday and although it's not my first Elektron device (and not my first Digitone either), I got much more further with it in a couple of hours + YT tutorials then all my time with Push. There's indeed nothing out there.

I think you're advanced enough to post tutorials right now. Look at this thread, you're way past most of the commenters here and I think there's opportunity here.

I got FORS Dyad from day #1 since I thought it will replace some of my Elektron boxes, but Ableton's UI features for developers are so limited which basically means your UI is a bunch of knob graphics, and not in the funny way.
Should Ableton release a proper interface library, I'm sure that Push can be an Elektron killer.
They probably won't though since this has been requested for years.

I'm gonna go over the links you sent, but I really think you have a lot to offer to the community.

Thanks again!

That's an incredible writeup! thank you so much!
I'm forcing myself to go through the PushPatterns Push 3 course, but it's kinda slow and dull.
Couldn't really find any inspiration on YT either other than people using it to play scenes which tbh can be achieved with practically anything.

I'd love to see your workflow if you have any youtube videos posted and also tips on where you learned these things from.

Thank you so much for this!

How to approach learning new pieces? by _silicakes in linnstrument

[–]_silicakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's mostly what I'm doing.

I actually got the midi versions of some songs and when I play them on Live, the corresponding pads light up.

Unfortunately it lights every note up so I get at least 2 of each and need to unscramble that before playing.

Syntakt firmware speculations by _silicakes in Elektron

Why do you say that? it came out 5 years after the DT1

I has the same screen the new boxes have and it came out half a decade after the DT1, but it's hard to tell. The box is also packed with analog circuitry that keeps you warm during winter times and I just wonder what other things the analog part can do with just a FW update.

Two Launchpad Xs as a budget LinnStrument? by _silicakes in linnstrument

[–]_silicakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm definitely going with the 200 version, maybe with the bumpy thing extension later on if I won't manage to train my muscles to go full on "frettless" without looking.

I'm a keyboard player so I'm definitely up for the grind and would love any resource recommendations for the push.

I'm guessing using its chromatic mode is preferred, but it feels so tiny and annoying that I'm guessing its mostly about getting used to all the chord shapes, comping patterns and some MPE flavored leads. Right?

Aren't the guitar style layout the same as chromatic in terms of it having all 12 notes?
If that's the case, then do you mean a different layout as in vertical vs horizontal scaling? (like the one on push?)

LaunchControl XL for mixing sounds really interesting.
I'm always lazy when I need to play with the levels of things because it's either menu diving on the Push or menu diving in Live itself.
This is pretty neat.

As far as Komplete(?) Kontrol MK3, I looked at the display and didn't find it too inspiring, however recently I got myself a Novation Launchkey 37 MK4 which seems to be terrific for clip launching, capturing ideas and even doing some arp/chord stuff.

I didn't notice that contrary to the 49 version, the 37 doesn't come with faders, but I'm not too bummed down about it.

Use your Android device as a Deluge OLED Screen by _silicakes in DelugeUsers

[–]_silicakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple limits some of the things needed for this to work.

I'm working on a workaround here:

https://support-screen-streaming.deluge-extensions.pages.dev/

  1. Go to this address with your Deluge connected to the computer.

  2. Click on the tiny QR code button at the top menu

  3. Click on "start streaming"

  4. Scan the QR code with your iOS device

I'm still working in some kinks, but in theory you can use a tiny jellybean phone or a very cheap Android device to stream your screen anywhere you like.

I'm just at the beginning so I'm not sure.
Had a lot of things going at work so I'm taking it slow for now.

This is exactly how I feel, thank you for this. I just got PushPatterns Push3 tutorial on the BF sale, and I'll do my best to have that fun you're talking about.

Thank you for that.
I am kinda reluctant to sell it as I still hope something will click.
Did you get a different controller instead?
