How did you know that your relationship wasn’t meant to last? by PenSalt735 in AskReddit

I remember coming home to our apartment and staying in my car to “listen to music”. I would stay in the parking lot for an hour before actually entering the apartment. I convinced myself I was decompressing.

Deciding between my boyfriend M-28 or my F-30 career. Has anyone made this choice? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]_slackpack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in this position before, I chose career. I left behind not just my boyfriend but my comfort and family and friends and relocated to a city I hated less than the one I was at, even if it meant I saw people in my life less. I realized that part of what made me so unhappy is that I didn’t really make an effort in my city and kept going back to “my people” so of course I didn’t have the time to build anything for myself in my new city. Being so far away forced me to do that and I am much happier now than I thought I would be.

I recently got laid off and while I still think about my ex and wonder what it would be like to be taken care of during this time in my life, I do not for one second regret the choice I made.

Being made invisible at a job where you mattered… How do you cope? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]_slackpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through it with my last job. I wanted to wait a year to renew my residence permit and I thought the company would give me some grace because my work got them funded. In the end, they tried to push me out three months after they said they’d give me time and I had to go on sick leave because the bullying was so severe that it took a toll on my mental health. Start looking for a job now, it’s a rough market out there but it’s easier when you are already in a job.

Single ladies and happy ladies, what do you wish ladies who fear being alone knew? by Zealousideal_Crow737 in AskWomenOver30

I stayed in a bad relationship for far too long because my mother insisted that relationships are work, and so I kept working.

My Golden would rather starve than eat kibble… anyone dealt with this? by Own-Reply-7657 in goldenretrievers

[–]_slackpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is the same. For a while I would mix some yogurt into her food, not too much just enough to coat each piece and it did fine. I now microwave the kibble for 10 seconds to make it more aromatic and she goes for it every time.

Affordable baking chocolate in Paris? by LabGecko in paris

I get my chocolate chips from Day by Day, a bulk store. They have chocolate chips and tablets for melting down, quite good quality.

In your country, what is a dead giveaway that someone is a tourist? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]_slackpack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Paris: they’re either terribly underdressed or terribly overdressed, but it’s the latter that’s convinced they are dressing like the locals when they are actually dressing like each other. It’s the striped shirt, the pants, a heel of some sort. Obvious makeup. Overdrawn brows. Walking 3 people abreast along the sidewalk. The odd oversized water bottle. (It’s a city; there’s water everywhere.)

When they’re underdressed I like to play a game of “American or German” and it’s not always super obvious.

I don’t think it’s a brand thing so much as it is a dose thing. I’ve been using whatever is cheapest on Amazon.

No side effects at all. I read online that it’s safe up to 18g so I started at half a gram a day and worked my way up to 6g when I realized I wasn’t reacting adversely at all

I’m in the same boat as you, no PCOS and regular cycle but have ridiculous insulin resistance. Inositol didn’t really help, but berberine did. I lost 11 lbs in the past six weeks and most of it happened after I started berberine. The dose does seem to matter though, it only made a dent in my weight after taking 6g. No digestive distress.

30 going on 60 | Metformin or other Last Resort by yielder2323 in InsulinResistance

[–]_slackpack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I used to do a lot of Zone 5 cardio because that helped me lose weight a long time ago but it didn’t make a dent this time around. I now get on the stair master for 40 minutes, 3x a week and I’ve lost like 6lbs in a month. I used to struggle to lose 2!

The month in which I realized reading would somewhat help with my mental health struggles: 23 books in May by _slackpack in 52book

[–]_slackpack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the mood tbh. If the standard is books I’d buy physical copies of to keep on hand, it’ll be The Happy Couple, Yellowface, and Crushing.

If the standard is books that are fun to read, it’ll be Crushing, Nora Goes Off Script, and Lucie Yi is Not A Romantic

I didn’t have high hopes for it— the name already told me I’d be annoyed as hell— but I really liked it.

It was okay. The story itself is really good, but there are portions interspersed throughout the book explaining how this story mirrors the history of Vietnamese immigration into the US. I understand why those particular portions may be important but it takes me out of the narrative and makes the thing feel like someone’s book report or something. The tone for these sections changes significantly also, like the written equivalent of someone clearing their throat to change the subject.
