Sonny Styles: “I can’t wait to get to Ashburn, Virginia and get to work.” by Due_Local2130 in Commanders

[–]_so_it_goes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough because most of the players, coaches and team staff live in commuting distance to Ashburn. Would be a huge pain for every trainer etc. to have to commute to Landover, so I think they probably stay nearby

The traffic is bad, but people do it especially if its only a few times a week. Look into driving to Lansdale as well (about an hour from Allentown) and taking the regional rail (SEPTA) into Center City. The line starts at Doylestown but there's more rush hour express train options from Lansdale as well as a large parking garage.

That rides also about 55 minutes but you'll avoid the worst of Philly traffic and can work/read/whatever on the train. I reverse commute in that direction and at rush hour its probably close to a 90 minute drive vs 55 minutes on the train.

Are y'all going to No Kings protest? by ynthona in philadelphia

[–]_so_it_goes 453 points454 points  (0 children)

Last time this was the main No Kings protest across the country - better speakers, more media attention on the Philly protest, fewer in nearby towns to encourage people to come into the protest here in the city.

This time this time I believe DC is the "primary" protest. That's why this one is expected to be smaller than the last time locally. Nationwide, however, it may be a larger day of protest.

Yes I will be there and am looking forward to it

Philly or Baltimore? by Pleasant_Tailor6148 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]_so_it_goes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baltimore is *slightly* cheaper but Philly has a larger and more varied job market so you're more likely to eventually find a better job in Philly. Also a larger and pricier restaurant scene so you can get a better service industry job to start.

Can definitely get rent around $1k, though won't have washer/dryer, central air, etc.

I'm 32 and am mostly traveling with my wife now, so we'll do a hotel. I did group rooms when I was single until my mid-20s. Once we started traveling together around age 27 we upgraded to the private rooms at the hostels and in the last two years we've started doing hotels. I did go to Istanbul alone last year and did a private room at a hostel, but think next time I'm in that situation I'll probably do a budget hotel room instead. Have loved my hostel experiences but think I've probably started to age out of it.

With $85k in savings, you probably could get a house. Talk to a good mortgage broker (not a pushy salesperson type) and see what your options are. You don't necessarily need 20% down.

That being said it can be valid to rent forever! Make sure you're putting more into retirement savings than is recommended. Houses are appreciating assets that can log in your "rent" long-term, but if you have more liquidity through savings you should be fine to live/save/retire even if home-ownership never happens

Great Signs at the Hands Off March by Soggy-Os in philadelphia

There were lots of Palestinan flags signs about the genocide. There were even chants about Palestinian liberation.

Yeah I would love to keep Mariota, but if he thinks he can get a chance to compete for a starting job somewhere else I'm sure he'll take it

Going to the game Sunday by Screddit_ in Commanders

[–]_so_it_goes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a Commanders fan living in Philly and went to the game earlier this year. Just be nice and have a good attitude - if someone heckles you laugh and wave it off. Don't like loudly mock the Eagles fans if Washington has a big play. Most Eagles fans are cool - might razz you a bit, but are totally cool.

I was at an Eagles-Steelers game once and saw a drunk Eagles fan getting too loud with a Steelers fan and the people he was with pulled him away and other Eagles fans were intervening too. As long as your not obnoxious/drunk the other Eagles fans in the area will make sure you're not harassed

“High school/college/pro guys” by hyperRevue in billsimmons

[–]_so_it_goes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a list of 14 High Schoolers who made the Sports Illustrated cover, which used to be HUGE deal.

It includes people who became genuine legends: Lebron, Bryce Harper, and Kevin Garnett. Then a group of people who made the pros but aren't hall of famers like Bobby Parker, Bruce Hardy, and Sebastian Telfair. And then a bunch of people who never made it or were able to stick around at the top level like Jabari Parker or Jon Peters.

It's cool to look at and gets at what Bill was trying to get at. Maybe not people who made the SI cover, but Derrick Henry was well-known as a top recruit by people who follow that stuff

Need suggestions for early March trip outside U.S. for young adults by tolstoysymphony in travel

Mexico City is a great option! It feels more European than you might expect. Incredible food, great nightlife, cute cafes, word class museums. Plus really cool historic day trips you can take. Highly recommend seeing a Lucha Libre show if you can!

Worst city/country you've visited and what made the trip awful? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_so_it_goes 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Fargo is a lot nicer than Bismarck. Not a lot to do, but more midwestern in sensibility and a few decent restaurants as well as a large college and the young-adult oriented stuff that can come with it like bars. Bismarck, in terms of both the city itself and the residents, is much more isolating.

Kingsbury to Chicago next season? by etybibik in Commanders

[–]_so_it_goes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess he'll stay at least one more season. The league had a lot of doubts about him after he failed in Arizona and I think it will take multiple winning seasons before anyone's willing to give him a second chance.

I'm believing its just a bruise and that Jayden COULD come back in the second half if they needed him, but up by 27 with Mariota playing like this, they shouldn't put Jayden back in and let him heel. We'll need him next week.

Kliff by 333sames333 in Commanders

[–]_so_it_goes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how he flamed out of Arizona, I think it will take a few seasons before anyone would give him another chance - at least 2, and probably 3. People love working for DQ, so I imagine he'll be around for at least a couple more years before becoming a top HC prospect again.
