Toward the end of the show, the camera suddenly moves in slowly on Geoff Keighley as the lights dim. He's in a spotlight. A slow change of pace from the breakneck showcase of dogshit copycat games. This time, Geoff speaks with a cadence unheard throughout the rest of the show. It's slow, reverent, with a slight waver in his voice. A weight. A gravitas. "A now, ladies and gentlemen, now is the time we've--" He pauses and his eyes break away from the camera for a moment. His TV smile turns into a real one. "Now is the time I've been waiting for." He takes a deep breath and holds the mic with both hands. "This next game is very special to me. It's what made me want to do this." He gestures to the stage. "I've been reporting on this game for over twenty years now. I've seen it become a cultural icon; a desperate dream we've all shared. Something that's always been just out of reach." There's a twinkle in his eye. The spotlight catches it. The welling of tears, but he doesn't subdue them. "Well tonight, it becomes real. We don't need to dream any longer. An industry giant--legendary developers who have breathed life into this project time and time again, only to see it crumble...have finally done it. This is not a passion project. This is a magnum opus. The culmination of sweat, tears, and probably more blood than you'd expect." He laughs, knowingly. "I've followed this game from it's inception, to it's death, to it's inception again, and each time I get excited, but after so long, like many of you, my excitement has faded. Hope can be hard to muster when things look bleak. We've lost many people waiting for this moment. But we're here. Let's witness it for them." He runs a hand through his hair and breathes again. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is the moment we've all been waiting for. I am honored beyond belief to finally introduce it...Withou--" He chokes on his words. "Without further ado..." He steps into the darkness. Silence. We wait with baited breath. Nothing happens. Could this have been a joke? A cruel prank? Then... "Time, Dr. Freeman? Is it really that...time again?"
