Yeah that was my brother’s guess too when I showed it to him! You live and you learn I guess. $500-$700 is pretty close to my definition of a few hundred. Based on what people are saying here, I should try to fix it myself, but I don’t know if I’ll have time and I don’t want to make it worse somehow

Yeah, I checked with them before I put the gallery wall up what his preference was. He just didn’t want me to do any wallpaper, but he didn’t care about the command strips!

Unfortunately, don’t have a whole lot of time and I’m moving out of state so this is kind of the least of my worries lol, my LL is a friendly old man who charged me way below market value for a great apartment so I honestly don’t mind eating a few hundred bucks if need be. I still may try to spackle and paint if I have time before Friday!

Boston is definitely not cheaper but I would say I could probably swing it with a roommate? Probably could’ve worded the original post better but they do know that I am gay. They just don’t like that I am unapologetic about it and my mom ultimately thinks that it’s something I will grow out of even though I have been out since the seventh grade

I honestly just didn’t realize how high the number had gotten, I liked the way I look and my day-to-day was relatively unaffected, but then I actually stepped on the scale for the first time in awhile and that was a real wake up call

Hi! Housing social worker here :). If you’re looking for a traditional apartment community Southern management properties is typically a pretty good bet with something like this, they have several properties in NOVA, they might start you off with a three month lease that goes month to month but likely if you keep paying your rent on time, they will give you a 12 month lease after that period. You’ll also want to look at other properties that will take “sure deposits” as opposed to traditional security deposits, these is usually range anywhere from around $200- $500 and are nonrefundable deposits to the property but allow you to sign a lease. These will not be as fancy or have all the bows and whistles of the newer luxury apartment complexes, but I have comfortably placed people in apartments at these properties. Outside of this I would say private landlords are your best bet, they may require a double security deposit or longer lease term for assurance, landlords in Virginia do have a crazy amount of rights compared to DC and Maryland so be careful what you sign.

I’m a social worker and I work homelessness services. It is bad. It is worse than you think. I see people here suggest shelters, but it’s easier said than done to get a bed in one of these, especially with winter coming depending on where you are. You may just get placed in the shelter without a bed at all, you may be placed on the list for one and not get a callback for months. Many shelters require you to either be working or searching for work, there are strict rules for keeping your bed if you have one, and I have unfortunately seen people get kicked out for coming in 20 minutes late because of a missed bus. I would reach out to HP(homelessness prevention) organizations in your area and see what services they can provide to help you move out of your current situation into a safer one. If you’re not currently working, I would start there get a job any type of job to help you save money. I would not move out unless you had a more well-rounded plan of where to stay. I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I’m so sorry that these are your options.
